Nicholai: Ooh. What do we have here?
Jill: Nicholai, don't! The city needs that vaccine!
Nicholai: More than I do? Hmm. I don't think the wisdom I've been trying to impart on you is getting through. Now I know you can't put a price on life. But I'm in this business to get paid. So let's make a deal. You go down there, battle the Nemesis. And I'll record it all and sell the combat data. Put on a good show and maybe I don't need the vaccine. Agreed? Good.
~ Nicholai taking the Vaccine from Jill and forcing her to fight the Nemesis so he can record and sell the combat data
Jill: It's done. Give me the vaccine, you greedy son of a bitch.
Nicholai: Oh no no no no. You print money. I like money. We should make ours an ongoing arrangement. Now drop the gun!
~ Nicholai explaining his simple motivation
There's a price tag for everything. Even letting the world burn.
~ Nicholai to Jill

Nicholai Ginovaef is the secondary antagonist of Resident Evil 3 remake, He was a ruthless UBCS operative and a Russian monitor agent in the Umbrella Corporation. He is also a former member of the Soviet Union. He is also secretly a double agent working for a mysterious client to destroy Umbrella.

He was voiced by Neil Newbon who also voiced Karl Heisenberg in Resident Evil Village.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Hired by an unknown contractor to sabotage Umbrella's efforts to hide their involvement while collecting combat data on the company's bioweapons, including Nemesis
  • Locks his platoon in a room filled with zombies
  • Kills a wounded man out of a hunch that he was infected while it could be seen as extremism, there’s no point due to the city being already filled to the brim with zombies and it’s mostly out of self-preservation
  • Very antagonistic toward Jill telling her to leave
  • On the train out of the city, Mikhail tells Nicholai how it’s weird that the zombies ambushed the platoon in a locked room while Nicholai smiles, implying he knows something.
  • While we don't know if he was the one to lock them up, he enjoyed it, so this isn't fridge horror.
  • Leaves Jill and Mikhail to die on the train when Nemesis kills all the survivors on board saying it's not after him
  • Assassinates Nathaniel Bard, the only man alive who can make the t-virus vaccine
  • Sadistically watches Jill writhe and shake in pain as she got infected with the T-virus by Nemesis
  • Sets up traps for Jill with many monsters when she finds him.
  • When he finds Jill hanging on a staircase. He takes the only T-virus vaccine sample and kicks her into a ring and makes her fight the nemesis so he can record it and sell the combat data. But also says that he will give Jill the vaccine if she puts on a good show
  • When Jill defeats Nemesis she confronts him again, not giving her the vaccine as “she prints money and Nicholai loves money” until Nemesis interrupts them yet again mutating into a horrific monstrosity, then leaves Jill to its mercy.
  • Incapacitates Carlos on the helipad and leaves him knocked out
  • Throws the vaccine at Jill after she defeated the Nemesis and then destroys it in front of her eyes thus dooming the city & endangering millions of lives, he did this because his client wanted him to reduce Umbrella to rubble hence getting rid of the evidence of the T-virus.
  • When hearing the missile has launched he intends to leave via helicopter leaving Jill and Carlos
  • Fights and brutally beats Carlos until Carlos restrains him and gives Jill the order to shoot
  • If Jill shoots Carlos or takes too long to shoot, Nicholai will turn around and slice Carlos’s throat open and then throw his knife right at Jill's forehead killing them both
  • When being shot by Jill, she asks why he did those crimes and he said it was for money and begs Jill to let him go and he promises to tell her everything but Jill decided to leave him.
  • People could argue he is an extremist/anti-villain because he wants to destroy Umbrella which seems noble, it was only for a quick buck, and he does that under someone else orders rather than on his own accord.
  • While most other villains in this franchise are mostly omnicidal bioterrorists looking to destroy the world or have redeeming qualities, Nicholai's overall goal is very simple; to get paid as much as he can, and has nothing redeeming about him.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Because his crimes of killing Bard and making sure that Umbrella is reduced to rubble were someone else's orders, he fails the Heinous Standards.
    • He also relies on Fridge Horror as we don't know if he was aware of the deal between Jill and the government of giving the vaccine to them so they will stop the missile from nuking Raccoon City. However, he is shown to not care regardless, as long as he gets paid for what he does, so this is a minor prevention.
