My motive isn't as '90s as Mickey's. Mine is just good old-fashioned revenge. You killed my son! And, now, I kill you and I can't think of anything more rational.
~ Nancy Loomis to Sidney Prescott.

Nancy Loomis is the main antagonist of 1997 slasher film Scream 2, the second installlment of the Scream film series.

She poses as a local reporter under the alias of Debbie Salt to seek revenge against those responsible for killing her son, Billy, specifically Sidney Prescott. Nancy is the mastermind of the second killing spree, her accomplice being Mickey Altieri.

She was portrayed by Laurie Metcalf. While in-disguise, she was voiced by Roger L. Jackson. In-costume scenes as Ghostface were portrayed by Christopher Doyle, Allen Robinson and Kurt Bryant.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She abandoned her son and her husband Hank upon discovering that Hank had an affair with Maureen Prescott, the promiscuous mother of Billy's girlfriend Sidney Prescott, which shattered the Loomis family and left both Nancy and Billy with a deep hatred for the Prescotts, and while her choice to leave Hank was understandable, she still abandoned Billy instead of taking Billy out of Woodsboro with her.
    • This, as well as Roman Bridger's encouragement, led Billy to team up with his best friend Stu Macher to kill Maureen and start a killing spree over the town of Woodsboro, California, which would later become known as the Ghostface killings. Additionally, she refused to admit she's even partially responsible for Billy becoming a killer, hypocritically blaming Sidney's mother mere seconds after claiming she's sick of parents being blamed for the actions of their kids, which implies that while her care for Billy is genuine, she is at least partially motivated by her own ego and not being able to accept responsibility.
  • She hired Mickey Altieri after she met him on a psycho website to make copycat Ghostface attacks over Woodsboro again in exchange of providing him with guidance, college tuition expenses and infamy.
    • Mickey followed his part of the deal and killed seven people throughout the film, causing the second Woodsboro killing spree, which she is responsible for as she hired him.
  • She posed as the news reporter "Debbie Salt" to bother Gale Weathers, one of Sidney's allies who was involved in stopping Billy and Stu, in her way to trick her into coming with her where she can kill her.
  • She taunted Sidney's film geek friend Randy Meeks after he answered a call meant for Gale by telling him through a phone that Sidney is never going to date him, leading Randy to mock Billy to strike back, causing Nancy to get into the van where Randy is and brutally murder him, depriving Sidney and her friends from the expert on horror movies clichés that could deduce all plans of the Ghostface killers and leaving Sidney emotionally devastated by his death.
  • She chased down Dewey Riley and Gale, eventually catching Dewey and stabbing him to near death right in front of Gale.
  • She kidnapped Gale and took her to an abandoned theater where Mickey is facing Sidney, where she revealed herself before shooting Mickey after he killed Derek, planning to frame him for all the murders.
  • She had no regret when her shooting Mickey caused him to shoot Gale and let her collapse to the bottom of the theater's stage, supposedly killing her.
  • She attempted to convince Cotton Weary, the man who Billy and Stu framed for Maureen's death and had been released earlier on the film, that he should kill Sidney for accusing him of her mother's murder and leading to him being forced him to spend one year in jail and nearly be executed on the gas chamber, which fortunately failed thanks to Cotton choosing to do the right thing and fatally shoot Nancy in the neck instead.
  • Although she did lose her son Billy and truly did care for him, it does not make her tragic as she refuses to admit she played a role in causing him to be a serial killer and ultimately die as the result of his own decision.
  • While she does have some comedic moments, most of these are when she acted like the annoying reporter. Anything after that, such as telling Gale she needs a makeover, or talking about how insane Mickey was, is too brief and minor to be detracting.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She fails the Heinous Standards to other Ghostfaces such as her son, Stu Macher, Roman Bridger, Jill Roberts, and Charlie Walker.
  • Although she refused to admit she's partly responsible for him becoming a killer, she still genuinely loves her son Billy, as the main reason she started her own killing spree was to avenge him getting killed, and she killed Randy because he insulted him.
