Mr. Ishtar is a minor antagonist in Yu-Gi-Oh!. He is the biological father of Marik and Ishizu Ishtar and the adoptive father of Odion Ishtar. His actions resulted in the creation of Yami Marik and causing the original Marik to become evil.

He was voiced by Motomu Anzaki in the Japanese anime, and Richard Will in the English dub.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He showed no sadness when his wife died.
  • He reduced his adopted son Odion to a slave, forcing the boy to call him "master".
  • He threatened to kill Odion after Marik was bitten by a snake.
  • He forced his children to remain in the tombs all the time and never go outside even once because he believed the outside world would distract them from their duties.
  • He forced his son Marik to have markings carved into his back with a searing hot knife. Nothing was used to dull the pain, and he did it with a sadistic smile on his face.
  • He threatened to cut Odion's tongue out when he offered to take Marik's place.
  • He tortured and nearly killed Odion with knives for letting Marik and Ishizu outside.
  • He attempted to cut Marik with knives for going outside.
  • Overall, his actions were responsible for the creation of Yami Marik.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He was a well-intentioned extremist as he was trying to enforce his family's duties.
  • Never mind how fanatical it is, he is indeed loyal to the Pharaoh.
  • He fails the Heinous Standards to Yami Marik and Yami Bakura, who did much worse with similar resources. While he was responsible for the creation of Yami Marik, this was unintentional and he was horrified at his creation.

Trivia[]

  • Mr. Ishtar and Number 96 are so far the only Yu-Gi-Oh! (execluding Toei) villains to be Near Pure Evil.
