This article is for a character that is approved as a Silly Near Pure Evil example, meaning they are a character that fits the criteria while being consistently played for laughs.

I'm Mr. Frog, this is my show, I eat the bug. (eats bug) I ate the bug, this is the end, I love you.
~ Mr. Frog during the Mr. Frog show.
Hello.
~ Mr. Frog's catchphrase.
Goodbye.
~ Mr. Frog beginning a new chapter in his life after becoming a normal frog.

Mr. Frog is a supporting character in the Adult Swim animated series Smiling Friends.

He is an anthropomorphic frog and the star of his own TV show, The Mr. Frog Show, which is immensely popular. Mr. Frog is extremely mentally unstable, however, and commits many villainous acts throughout the episode he is featured in.

He is voiced by Michael Cusack.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close To Being Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • Despite having apologized to his audience, Mr. Frog still continued his heinous ways, and got away with them after the initial scrutiny, getting his show back and becoming the richest and most powerful man in the world and later corrupt president of the United States.
  • While it is very much implied his heinous acts are influenced by his drug addiction, as him dismembering a woman who died as a result was accidental, it isn't delved into how many of his acts were done because of his drug addiction since Mr. Frog is still shown to have a violent, brutal, and sociopathic personality.
  • While he doesn't lie to anyone, it's because he's shameless about it.
  • Despite the fact that the series is a black comedy that is always being played for laughs, with his heinous crimes being no exception, he's still taken seriously in-universe.
    • Supporting this is that for the most part, the titular Smiling Friends are truly good people who actively try to fix others' problems, so the show doesn't rely too much on comedic sociopathy, hence why he is able to qualify.

Background[]

  • During his flashback montage of "Le Voyage Incroyable de Monsieur Grenouille", several of Mr. Frog's crimes are revealed:
    • He shot birds for fun as a child.
    • He ate his date during an outing at a diner.
    • He robbed the Meep Bank with a hammer.
    • He poached several elephants.
    • He burned down a pile of money, impersonating Heath Ledger’s Joker.
    • He was an associate of Jeffrey Epstein, notorious financier and sex trafficker, with the two even wearing matching "I'm With Stupid" shirts that imply he was a close friend of his.
    • He had an angry meltdown at the Chuckle Warehouse, in a reference to Michael Richards’ 2006 meltdown at the Laugh Factory.
    • He executes a random peasant in front of a bloodthirsty crowd.

Season 1[]

  • He tried to devour a TMZ news reporter, with it stated that the reporter was in Mr. Frogs' mouth for seven agonizing minutes, resulting in the producer trying to fire Mr. Frog from his show and his reputation being ruined.
  • In his mansion, he had an animal sanctuary where we see several animals murdering each other, with a dolphin dying from dehydration.
    • Given that Mr. Frog was presumably the one who put the animals in that habitat, he is indirectly responsible for the deaths of those animals.
  • When Pim suggested simply apologizing to the TMZ reporter, he outright admitted that he isn't sorry.
  • He pulled the hair on top of Pim's head, which is actually an exposed nerve ending, despite Pim telling him not to, causing Pim immense pain.
    • While Mr. Frog wasn't aware that Pim's hair was an exposed nerve, he still physically assaulted someone without their consent.
  • While he did do a meet and greet and donated a million-dollar check to the MEEP foundation, these were all done for pragmatic reasons so he could get his show back rather than any genuine kindness.
  • He strangled and nearly murdered one of his fans just because he thought he was insulting him, even though the fan just wanted to take a selfie with him, though this seems to have been because Mr. Frog was high on drugs.
  • When he was donating a check to the MEEP foundation, he mutilated the woman he was giving the check to, causing her to bleed to death.
    • While it was an accident and he does appear to show remorse for it indicated by his shocked expression, not to mention he was withdrawing from drugs and he was visibly shaking which caused him to accidentally cut off her hands, it still was an act of assault and mutilation.
  • When he was on The Jimmy Fallon Show, he made an incredibly racist comment about his co-workers that destroyed his reputation further and was so bad that the producer censored him with a long beep sound.
  • He ate and murdered Rex, the producer of his show, alive. While Rex was horrible because of his controlling and abusive nature, Mr. Frog still killed someone in a gory fashion.
  • He presumably beat the News anchorwoman to death with his hammer.

Season 2[]

  • During his campaign video for president, he is seen committing several atrocities:
    • Nearly beating up an interviewer to death.
    • Attempting to eat a baby.
    • Robbing several stores.
    • Blowing up a few innocents with a Pumpkin Bomb for no reason.
    • Poisoning the whole lake with chemicals.
    • Flipping over cars with people still inside them.
      • Especially given he wasn't moving after the fact, it is highly plausible the man in the car he flipped over was killed by him.
    • He ends the video by randomly insulting the viewers and telling them he hates them.
  • When asked why he is "so evil" during an interview, Mr. Frog seemed happy to answer before being interrupted, potentially implying he is, at least to some degree, aware of how heinous his actions are.

Season 3[]

  • He killed and ate his own Vice President.
  • As his first degree and only decree as president, he launched a global conquest, successfully taking over every country on Earth, crushing the U.N into submission and wiping out any resistance left.
  • He assigns a random peanut as the new president of the United States, likely throwing the country into anarchy.
  • He attempted to punch a man after the man asked if Mr. Frog could have sex with his girlfriend, the only reason he didn't do it being that he was too depressed to bother. Notably, him not punching the man is what tips off Charlie that something's seriously wrong with him.
  • He violently ripped out Pim's eye repeatedly when him and Charlie offered to help him.
  • He killed multiple UFC fighters during his first and only fight. While this was unintentional as he didn't even move during the match, he doesn't show any remorse for the deaths he caused, only being depressed that the fight brought him no satisfaction.
  • He randomly kicked Pim in the face, knocking him out and severely damaging his head despite Pim trying to sing a song to make him feel better.
  • It is revealed he abandoned his family in pursuit of fame, causing irreparable damage to his relationship with his father and not being there when his mother died of cancer.
    • It's worthy to note that his mother died when Mr. Frog was already midway through his conquest of the entire world and would've had enough resources to help her through her plight, meaning that she probably died due to his inaction and lack of care.
  • He flashes his anus to the audience (referencing "Goatse" meme) during the final flashback.
  • He achieves enlightenment by turning into a real frog, but this doesn’t count as redemption since he never shows remorse for his crimes.
  • He never gets punished for his crimes unlike other antagonists like Grim and Gnarly or Mr. Landlord, making him a Karma Houdini.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Shockingly, for all his heinous actions, he is played for sympathy in the episode "Le Voyage Incroyable de Monsieur Grenouille" where he becomes empty inside after achieving everything he's ever wanted in life. He then tries to make use of the opportunity by making amends with his parents, only to be hit with the dreadful realization that his mother was dead and his father wants nothing to do with him for disgracing their family name with his TV show. All of this culminates in Mr. Frog pulverizing the surrounding area in broken anger and crying afterwards.
  • Despite the massive strain on their relationship, with his father having outright disowned him, he does genuinely love both of his parents, becoming genuinely horrified to learn he wasn't there for his mother's death and sadly looking back when leaving his father's house.
