~ Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls. |
Monaca Towa is the main antagonist of Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls. She is the leader of the Warriors of Hope. Amongst the Warriors, she has the rank known as "Mage". She also created a robotic bear known as Kurokuma.
Monaca appears to be cheerful, kind, and child-like when you first meet her. However, it's slowly revealed to us that she was actually a manipulative, cunning sociopath. Using her master manipulation by faking her paraplegic condition, she was able to trick not only others around her but the members of Warriors of Hope too.
She idolizes Junko Enoshima, seeing her as a big sister and dedicates her life to be more like Junko, to continue her reign of despair. She is also Komaru Naegi's archenemy.
In the Japanese version, she was voiced by Aya Hirano. In the English version, she was voiced by Cristina Valenzuela.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- She faked her paraplegic nature to stop further abuse and to manipulate those around her, including her own adopted family.
- In Hope's Peak Elementary School, she would make a "joke" to her fellow Warriors of Hope, where she would convince them that all of them committed suicide when she was not actually going to do it.
- Helped Junko Enoshima by mass-producing Monokumas using her family's factory.
- Tricked her father and the rest of the other adults in order to produce more Monokumas by telling them that she wanted futuristic robots that could rescue people during disasters and save lives.
- Monaca would use these robots during the Tragedy as killer robots, while also creating helmets shaped like the head of a Monokuma, to mentally control her guests, who would be children. When her father discovered this, he tried to stop her, but she blackmailed him by saying that if he did so, everyone would know that his company had helped Junko Enoshima, due to their reputation with being as seen by heroes by the public.
- Killed her own father, after he surrendered to the Future Foundation, by some Monokumas that she sent.
- Manipulated her friends into committing adult genocide, by saying that the adults killed Junko.
- Created the "Demon Hunting" game, where Monokumas hunted down captured adults through a bracelet, and if they attempted to escape, they would be killed via explosion by the bracelet.
- Captured Komaru Naegi and forced her to participate in the "Demon Hunting" game.
- Blackmailed Toko Fukawa into gaining Komaru's trust.
- When she heard that Masaru had been "killed", she cries crocodile tears, pretending to forget his name and bad-mouthing him during the funeral.
- Manipulated the Warriors of Hope to turn against Nagisa, when he believed that Masaru was still alive.
- When Jataro, one of her own allies, is presumed dead, she doesn't think much of it.
- Alongside the other Warriors of Hope, she constantly mistreats and abuses Nagito (his title "Servant" being a part of that) despite his loyalty to them when brainwashed.
- Manipulated and used her own two friends' traumas against them. She intentionally triggered Kotoko's trauma and punished her for disagreeing with her. She degraded and kissed Nagisa, taking advantage of the crush he has on her as well as his trauma. By the end, it's revealed that she expected him to fail, as it was part of her plan.
- Almost tricked Komaru Naegi into mass murdering the brainwashed children by giving her the controller which controlled the Monokumas. She further tempted her to commit the decision by showing a video of her dead parents. This was to turn her into "Junko Enoshima II".
- In addition, she knew the killing of the Monokuma Kids would cause a war between Future Foundation and Towa City.
- When Makoto is in a state of despair, she called him a loser for relying on the girls' help. She finds it unbelievable how he could've beaten Junko Enoshima.
- She claims to have killed Miaya to infiltrate Future Foundation for no particular reason other than to entertain herself.
What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]
- She has a genuinely tragic backstory. She was abandoned by her mother and taken in by her father who, alongside her half-brother, Haiji Towa, never truly treated her as a part of their family. This caused Monaca to never feel like she was loved by anyone in her life, feeling like she didn't deserve love. Her father also put her into a high position in his company solely because he saw her talent in robotics as a business opportunity. Finally, her father and said half-brother physically abused her to the point that it was believable to them when she faked being wheelchair-bound as a result of their abuse.
- Furthermore, the only adult that ever showed Monaca any sense of love was Junko, making her idolize Junko, who was able to slowly twist Monaca's mind and fully corrupt her into the horrible person that she is now. It is shown that this abuse and corruption still affects Monaca in the present as she desperately seeks to be loved, no matter what that kind of love might be.
