| “ | Look kid, Life is unfair. You never know when tragedy will strike, but trust me, it does. You just haven't seen it yet. Life is cruel. It will hurt you and you probably sometimes do not even notice, but you will. Life is evil. There are people in this world who are evil, who seek only to hurt others, sometimes even those who should care about you will hurt you. Life is untrustworthy. Even those that are closest to you will betray you at the drop of a hat. Life is hatred. Hatred controls the human mind when it is felt. Sometimes those who do hate aren't aware of it, but they will. Life is unkind. Nothing in this world is truly free. Everything has its price; whether it's physical or psychological, it will cost something. So why do I seem so apathetic to those that are missing? Simple, this is part of life. People die or go missing. It's just the way the world works. |

| ~ Miss Circle's speech about her views on life. |
Marylen Circle, better known as Miss Circle, is the main antagonist of the Fundamental Paper Education Fanfiction Nobody is born a monster , and is the main protagonist of its sequel Behind the monster, which were both written by Dustlord777.
She's portrayed initially as a friendly, if rather strict, teacher. However, in reality, she's a sadistic sociopath who enjoys killing and eating those who fail her classes.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Unlike her original counterpart, who is also murderous, she can also be somewhat comedic and respects Oliver, Zip, and Edward, and is also friends with Miss Bloomie and Thavel. This version is taken more seriously, and all of her original redeeming qualities (except her friendship with Bloomie) are gone.
- When she became a teacher, she brutally murdered and ate over ten students just for getting an F in her class.
- She corrupted several other teachers to adopt a similar mindset as hers, leading to several other brutal deaths.
- She killed 5 of the students brutally, those being:
- She stabs a failing student in the chest and bites out a chunk of her neck, leaving nothing left of the student when she's done with her.
- She beat a bully to death, and whilst the bully was a jerk, they nevertheless didn't deserve such a brutal fate.
- When two students sneak into a room when they are told not to, she takes them to her classroom. Once there, she brutally cuts one in half and disembowels the other, killing them both.
- She got a boy to her office, and once there, she proceeded to hit him in the head, whilst making a cruel joke about it, before impaling him in the head, killing him instantly.
- She corrupted one of her students, Charlotte, by teaching her to rig things in her favor by getting rid of any competition. This caused said "competition" to have their secrets exposed and their lives ruined before she and Miss Bloomie ended their lives.
- While the deaths were off-screen, they are explicitly stated to have been brutal, as Miss Circle herself says there's not much left of them to find.
- In the end, she succeeds in her goals of brutally murdering several of her students and corrupting Charlotte into becoming like her, receiving no comeuppance for her crimes. although she does get 8 years in prison and has her teaching license taken away, this sentence is far too lenient for her countless crimes, and she is out of jail in the sequel and has been given her job back by Miss Grace.
- While she is nice to Charlotte and refers to her as "the daughter she never had", the narrative leans toward this being manipulation and to keep Charlotte on her side.
- Behind the monster proves this as she shows no concern about Charlotte's death and considers it all a "waste of time" after Charlotte failed
What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]
- She has a genuinely tragic backstory, Her mother Janice was abusive towards her and her father, being beaten badly to the point of drawing blood and being talked down and insulted and beaten by her, making her feel worthless, she also witnessed her own father die from a crash, whilst having her arm replaced with a compass due to her arm being beyond repair, which led to her being bullied in school and being neglected and even more abused by her mother, and despite how horrid her actions are, the narrative makes it clear that she would not have turned out the way she did if she was raised in a healthier and kinder environment and it is portrayed sympathetically.
- The sequel "Behind the monster" further plays her for sympathy, as it is revealed she was cheated on by someone that she loved and was deeply hurt by his betrayal. It is also extremely heavily implied that her mother raped her with a ruler once after being given an extreme beating (in which left bruises all over Marylen's body) over an F, all of which is played for sympathy, and the narrative makes it clear that Marylen is a deeply traumatized woman.
- She cares about multiple people:
- She deeply loved her father and never stopped loving and grieving him after his death.
- She has a close relationship with her aunt, seeing her as a mother-like figure, and visits and shows great respect toward her.
- She cared about her grandparents, as she mentions having cleared snow out of their driveway during the winter, and says she misses them.
- She has a genuine friendship with Bloomie, being very affable toward her, and it is mentioned they hang out after school hours, with nothing implying it is fake.
- She is rather affable toward Miss Grace, offering her tea and chatting with one another for a while, with nothing implying it was fake.
- It is heavily implied that she feels some shame/remorse for her crimes, as she questions her actions, calling herself a monster and even sobbing to herself at one point over what she has become.
