Whatever made you think you could get away with betraying me?
~ Mesogog to Elsa after she exposed his alter ego.

Mesogog is the main antagonist of Power Rangers Dino Thunder.

He is a ruthless and treacherous humanoid dinosaur-like monster that became a hostile enemy to the Dino Rangers due to his plan of bringing back the age of the dinosaurs once more by forcing it on humanity.

He was portrayed by Latham Gaines.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • His overall main goal is bring the world back to the dinosaur age with all people as reptile hybrids.
  • He is shown to be extremely abusive to his minions since the way he punished them while not physically painful is extremely painful in a mental way since he would telepathically attack them whenever they failed his plans.
  • He shows absolutely no care for any of his monsters and allies, whenever one of his monsters' plans fails rather than mourning, he takes out his anger on his minions, any alliance he made with any villain such as Lothor is purely pragmatism since when his plan with Lothor failed he later betrayed Lothor and imprisoned him.
  • While he wants to bring the world back to the dinosaur age, this doesn't make him an extremist since he didn't do it out of genuine compassion and respect for dinosaurs but rather it's so that he can have power for himself.
  • Despite the extremely high heinous standards of Power Rangers and huge resource gap compared to other villains that have more advanced armies and technology combined with bigger resources such as Emperor Grumm, Emperor Mavro and Prince Vekar and even then Mesogog still stands out being a villain only bound to Earth and even then he manages to be one of the most evil and despicable Power Rangers villains by ruling planet Earth under extremely destructive methods like Queen Bansheera, Ancient Master Org, Viktor Adler, Dai Shi, Venjix, Master Xandred and Serrator compared to most Power Rangers villains, with his crimes such as sending Terence "Smitty" Smith through a FWTD and him creating Jupitor to hijack an satellite and blow up the planet Jupiter combined with a unique attempt at omnicide and world domination are done on a much more destructive scale compared to most Power Rangers villains, the heinous standard also has variables on each generation of power rangers, making the comparison of Mesogog to all the antagonist that came before and after not entirely adequate with the era he's in, and only had one crossover competition with the previous antagonist, Lothor, of who he not only surpassed in heinousness but contained him as well.
  • Overall, Mesogog has no comedic moments and is taken very seriously.

Background[]

  • He sent his Tyrannodrones to kidnap Tommy Oliver all while he destroys the island at the same time.
  • When Terrance "Smitty" Smith was horribly injured in a lab accident, Mesogog took what remained of him and placed it in a cyborg armor, transforming him into Zeltrax, a cybernetic general Zeltrax.
    • This easily proves to be a FWTD since he not only rebuilt Terence "Smitty" Smith as Zeltrax but also completely erased his memory which ultimately made Zeltrax who his friend was at the first place.
  • He at some point captured Elsa (who was once a normal human) and empowered her into his evil henchman.

Dino Thunder[]

  • He created and sent many monsters to destroy the Dino Thunder Rangers but even then, some of the monsters he created and sent commit unique crimes not seen in other PR Villains with the most notable one being Jupitor being made to hijack a satellite and blow up the planet Jupiter.
  • He sent his Tyrannodrones to capture Conner McKnight, Ethan James and Kira Ford to recover the Dino Gems for him.
    • When he sent them for the second time the Tyrannodrones this time successfully captured Kira Ford and when she was captured, he asked her on where the Dino Gems were.
  • He ordered an attack of Reefside, sending the Biozords to rampage through the streets of Reefside.
  • He ordered to initiate the Geno-Randomizer and created a monster so he can stop Tommy Oliver from training the newborn Raptor Riders.
  • When he found a mysterious energy crystal with great power but couldn't find a way to open it, he sent his army to kidnap Tommy Oliver.
  • When he successfully captured Tommy Oliver, he painfully tortured him by draining with his life-force extractor all while telling him that his main goal was to return the Earth to its prehistoric roots.
  • When fighting Tommy Oliver, he nearly beat him until Tommy managed to steal the stone.
  • He manipulated and brainwashed the White Dino Ranger known as Trent to be an enemy to the other Dino Rangers.
  • He teamed up with Lothor to destroy both the Dino and Ninja Rangers.
  • When he freed himself of his humanity, he also got rid of Elsa when he needed and energy and power supply for his cannon.
  • When his plans failed, he ultimately took out his anger on the rangers since after telling the rangers that his plans might have failed, he then absorbed the Dino Gems to evolve to his most powerful form known as Mesomonster and tried to destroy the rangers for one final time.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He became evil through an experiment gone wrong making him have moral agency issues, however this is debatable.
    • He did have some humanity in him when he was Anton, and developed more advanced and intelligent quickly, and soon split from Anton, becoming his own individual, and him being more violent and aggressive from the separation does not count as a prevention, as it was his decision to get rid of his humanity.
    • Another controversial case on Mesogog possibly having moral agency is when he was talking to Trent about his dark side consuming him, and not by being controlled by his white ranger self, but just simply his own accord accepting the corruption, this goes to show that Mesogog has an understanding of how someone makes the choice to become evil. Do keep in mind that Mesogog was the only character to directly point this out to Trent that he wouldn't have moral agency issues if he controlled the white ranger enough, meaning that Mesogog may have understood the depth of moral agency better than anyone else in the show, this all makes the moral agency issues harder to accept with Mesogog, as how would a character with moral agency issues have a better understanding of moral agency than perhaps most of anyone else? Not only that but Mesogog, a character who supposedly has moral agency issues, was able to figure out how to undo moral agency issues with Trent being his prime example.

Trivia[]

  • He is the first Near Pure Evil in the franchise Disney Era.
  • He is Near Pure Evil while his Sentai counterpart Dezumozorlya was Pure Evil. Plus, Dezumozorlya also had even crueler acts onscreen, such as infection of innocent beings and rape, and more murder of innocent people.
