He was portrayed by Ian Beattie.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He killed Syrio Forel, Arya's swordmaster when Syrio used a a wooden training sword (that he also destroyed). He did this while trying to take Arya to the Lannisters.
- Besides Joffrey Baratheon, he regularly abuses Sansa and traumatizes her by forcing her to view her father's decapitated head. He also slaps her when she suggests Joffrey "supposedly" can't hurt girls.
- He poured a barrel of wine down Ser Dontos Hollard's throat under Joffrey's orders to kill him, stopping only because Sansa convinces Joffrey to stop doing so.
- He abuses Sansa twice under Joffrey's orders, beating and stripping her before nearly maiming her with his sword during the second instance.
- He refuses to go outside with a group of soldiers to rescue Sansa when Tyrion orders him to after Joffrey causes a city riot, stating "only the king tells me what to do" as a craven excuse.
- On Sansa's wedding with Tyrion he was part of Joffrey's idea to rape her where he and Ser Boros were to hold her down, and due to his conduct this scenario made a lot of sense for it to happen. However, Tyrion prevented the "covering the sheets" before it happened.
- He was one of the knights that Cersei ordered to arrest Tyrion for Joffrey's murder (without any proof).
- Offered to arrest prison two hunters that gave the wrong dwarf head instead of Tyrion's, though Cersei prevented it so it wouldn't deter other hunters.
- He's a pedophile who gets off on beating defenseless little girls in Braavos brothel. Also, based on Bronn's summarizations from King's Landing, he was already known as a pedophile.
- While he does follow Joffrey and Cersei's orders with no questions asked, he's not truly loyal to them and he only does so in order to keep and abuse his status.
- He has no sympathetic or redeeming qualities at all, and despite his knighthood, he is a massive coward and Hate Sink. Excluding not helping Sansa as mentioned before, he also stays completely silent when Tyrion tells Bronn to kill him if he says another word rather than putting up a fight, and is reduced to a pathetic crying mess when at Arya's mercy.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He fails the Heinous Standards that other knights and warriors like Gregor Clegane, Euron Greyjoy or Karl Tanner that succeeded in much worse acts. This is especially due to the fact that most of his evil acts were done under following Joffrey's orders.
Trivia[]
- Only the TV show version of Meryn Trant qualifies for Near Pure Evil, as his pedophilia is absent in the novels and fails to cross the baseline.
