Megatron is the main antagonist of the original continuity of the Transformers film series.
Once the former brother of Optimus Prime, he becomes the apprentice of the Fallen to find the Decepticons and wage the infamous Transformer Civil War on a bid for control that saw the planet destroyed. Seeking to rebuild Cybertron out of concern for his homeworld, Megatron frequently attempts to wipe out all life on Earth to do so, doing it either by himself or even be willing to ally with ruthless allies such as the Fallen, Sentinel Prime and Quintessa to do the heavy lifting of their plans.
In the first three films, he was voiced by Hugo Weaving, who also played Agent Smith in the first three The Matrix films. In the last two films, he was voiced by Frank Welker, who also voiced Nemesis in The Smurfs. In the Japanese dub of the films, he was voiced by Kotaro Nakamura, who also voice Dr. Eggman in the Sonic the Hedgehog series.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- Overall, he is a ruthless, tyrannical, manipulative, deceptive, psychopathic and power-hungry tyrant who rules over the Decepticons with an iron-fist, waging a brutal war against the Autobots all in the name of total universal domination and to conquer Cybertron.
- He has a xenophobic hatred towards humanity and organic beings in general, viewing them as inferior beings who don't deserve to live.
- He constantly abuses and mistreats Starscream, his second-in-command even though he deserves it mostly due to his treacherous acts.
In the Past[]
- Upon joining under the Fallen's sway to found the Decepticons, Megatron wages war against the Autobots on Cybertron as it's field commander, leading the planet to be turned into a near barren wasteland incapable of supporting life.
- At some point during the War, he made a deal with Sentinel Prime to use a planet rich with resources as a source to rebuild Cybertron, which lead to the events of Dark of the Moon.
- When the Allspark was sent to Earth, Megatron destroyed Bumblebee's voice box.
Transformers[]
- After being awakened, he breaks out of his icy prison and starts to destroy and slaughter every single human nearby before transforming into his jet mode and flying escaping the Hoover Dam.
- Upon being informed of the Allspark's location inside Earth, Megatron attempts to use it create a devastating army using Earth's machine to exterminate all humanity, bragging about how he will make it happen after killing Optimus.
- Upon having Jazz at his grasp, Megatron kills him by tearing him into two pieces while making a sadistic quip.
- After Optimus arrives into the battle, Megatron wastes no time and attacks him, with the intent of killing him.
- He chases Sam Witwicky across Mission City to get the Allspark and tries to coerce him by promising him that he may live to become Megatron's pet.
- He would've killed Optimus Prime if it weren't for Sam intervening and using the Allspark to kill Megatron.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen[]
- Upon his revival on Revenge of the Fallen, the first thing he does is strangling Starscream for taking command of the Decepticons.
- He kidnaps Sam and tortures him, while musing to him how much of a pleasure it will be to be the one who kills him as revenge for his death as he dissects his brain and claim the Allspark.
- When Optimus attacks him to save Sam's life, and calls Megatron out on his bloodthirsty ways, to which Megatron asks him whether a single human life is not worth sacrificing for the survival of their race to which Optimus retorts he knows Megatron will never stop at one human life.
- At the end of the forest battle, Megatron kills Optimus point blank.
- Upon his revival, Megatron becomes the chief enforcer for the Fallen's plan to claim Earth's Sun and wipe out all life on it in the process.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon[]
- Upon the Fallen's death, Megatron takes charge as the supreme leader of the Decepticons and has an alliance made with Dylan Gould to kill all the scientists that pose as loose ends to the Decepticon involvement with the famous Moon Landing of 1969.
- Manipulates the Autobots into reviving the treacherous former Autobot leader, Sentinel Prime so that they can commence the plan they formulated together in using the Space Pillars to transport Cybertron to Earth, killing the entire planet for its resources and having all that survives of the human race enslaved to rebuild Cybertron.
- Having humans rebuild Cybertron might seem impractical on the surface, but it’s possible Megatron wanted them to do it as punishment for siding with the Autobots, and out of his general xenophobia.
- Alongside Sentinel, he has a Space Bridge opened for the Decepticons on Earth to cause carnage, and then sends in Starscream to blow up all the Autobots in one-fell swoop.
- Under Sentinel's command, he orders his Decepticon armada to seal of the city of Chicago and massacre it so that the city can be turned into a fortress for his and Sentinels collective plan, leading to over 60 thousand people, majority civilians, dying, in the most horrific Decepticon invasion of the series.
- While Megatron helps Optimus defeat Sentinel Prime for good, it was only upon realizing that Sentinel had no intention of sharing power upon the success of their plan and had been intending to usurp Megatron from the start, showing that even if he genuinely concerned for Cybertron's survival, he's primarily a selfish power-hungry conqueror.
Transformers: Age of Extinction[]
- The Decepticon Invasion of Chicago has left a traumatizing impact on Earth, with all the governments making Cybertronians illegal across the planet, with the rogue CIA group named Cemetary Wind hunting down both Autobots and Decepticons and almost every human being on the planet hating Cybetronians for Megatron's actions.
- Upon being killed by Optimus and was resurrected as Galvatron as CSI's prototype, Galvatron pretends to be one of their mindless slaves before breaking from their control to slaughter multiple innocent civilians on a highly occupied road.
- Taking control over the Seed, Megatron intends to detonate it at the most populated city near him, which will be Hong Kong, to terraform Earth into a molten metal state and create a new Cybertron.
Transformers: The Last Knight[]
- Partners up with Quintessa to have the Earth destroyed, wanting to force Optimus to watch it happen in front of him as revenge for something that was his own fault anyway.
- He kidnaps a few American Senators just to he could bargain with the TRF to release some of his Decepcticons and hunt after Cade Yeager.
- After arriving at the Autobot base, he shoots at Hound, almost killing him.
- Once Optimus breaks free from Quintessa's control, Megatron steals the staff from Prime and tells him in a gloating manner that he shall watch Earth die.
- Uses his fusion cannon, a weapon made to be used against Transformers, to kill Sir Edmund Burton, a mere human.
- Even after losing one of his arms again, Megatron uses his last remaining arm to use Optimus' sword and pin him down, almost killing Prime and hypocritically calls him out over being brothers in the past, before Optimus defeats him.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- While mostly a power-hungry lunatic, it is progressively shown that Megatron has a genuinely extremist goal to restore his home planet Cybertron to its former glory. In Revenge of the Fallen he is happily serving the Fallen so that by absorbing the Sun, they can restore Cybertron using the energy harvested and secure their race's future. In Dark of the Moon, he solemnly watches Cybertron's revival with joy, and in The Last Knight he bitterly blames Optimus for Cybertron's destruction and has been working with Quintessa so that he can see by his own admission, his home be restored. However at the end, Megatron is still primarily a power-hungry conqueror, he cannot allow anyone else but him to rule Cybertron which is why he turns against Sentinel, so this is a fairly minor prevention.
- He genuinely cared about his master, the Fallen, showing loyalty and respect towards him that he is the only person he is actually willing to bow down to when he regretted his failure towards his master. Upon seeing Optimus killing the Fallen, Megatron is earnestly saddened seeing it and then leaves bitterly swearing vengeance.
- He calls the deceased Starscream his "old, treacherous friend" despite mistreating his right-hand man for his treasons before, and laments the fact he won't be able to see a reclaimed Cybertron under the Decepticon rule and the destruction of Earth, showing that he has some small respect for him.
Trivia[]
- His novel version from Alan Dean Foster/Peter David's novelizations of the first three Transformers film doesn't count as Near Pure Evil due to redeeming himself at the end of the third book when he pacts a truce with Optimus Prime after teaming up to defeat Sentinel Prime.
- Curiously enough, originally the third film was going to have the novelization ending, however since the ending was leaked back then, and Michael Bay learned about it, decided to change the ending with Optimus killing Megatron. Had the third movie went with the novel's ending, Megatron would have qualified as Inconsistently Heinous.
- He is the first and currently only version of Megatron to be Near Pure Evil.
- He is one of the four versions of Megatron to have a version of Starscream that is more vile than him, with the others being the Aligned Continuity, Prime Wars, and Cyberverse.
