“ SCARY! What's wrong with this guy! You can't even talk with him! It's impossible! I can't meet with them! He said he'll kill me if I say their name! I'll seriously die at this rate! Is this guy seriously a middle schooler?! „
~ Takemichi describing how brutal Masataka can be.

Masataka Kiyomizu is a minor antagonist in the 2017 Japanese manga series Tokyo Revengers and its 2021 anime adaptation, being the main antagonist of the Toman arc and the secondary antagonist of the Moebius arc.

He is a former and exiled member of Toman and the tormentor and "slaver" of Takemichi and his friends, before they all end up joining the First Division of Toman. He originally abused Toman's name in order to have his way in organizing and arranging brutal fights just so he could win bets while torturing Takemichi and his friends, he was also the very first enemy and threat Takemichi faced in the past.

He is voiced by Satoshi Hino in Japanese and portrayed Nobuyuki Suzuki in the live-action film.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Prior to the events of Tokyo revengers, he beat up and enslaved Masaru; Takemichi’s cousin.
  • After he enslaved Masaru, he extorted him into tricking Takemichi and his friends into fighting him and his gang so that they could enslave them.
  • He also constantly verbally, psychologically, and physically abuses Masaru, and steals his money.
  • According to Takemichi in one of his flashbacks, his life alongside his friends went downhill ever since they became Masataka's slaves, being repetitively abused and serving him and his gang everyday. Same goes for using them for fights he hosted for gambling and winning bets illegally by force.
  • When he first encountered Takemichi and his friends, he and his gang easily overwhelmed and brutally beaten them up. Afterwards they forced them to bow to their knees and officially make them their slaves.
  • He chose Takemichi to be placed on a fight he arranged to win a bet. However, when Takemichi lost, he had his gang beat him up as a "lesson" for losing.
  • When Takemichi brought up Mikey's name, Masataka furiously beats him with a wooden bat and nearly assaults the boy to near death. The beating got so bad that his own gang members were horrified at what they were seeing and had to stop him before they end up getting into trouble.
  • After having to beat Takemichi, he threatens that he'll kill him if he ever mentions Mikey once more. This act would put Takemichi in a state of fearing him and reminded of how brutal he can be.
    • It also shows that he seems to have some form of envy towards Mikey and Draken.
  • He would then choose Takuya to be the next opponent in one of his arranged fights, whose very weak and has no experience in fighting. This event would've been disastrous if Takemichi never intervened, as a flashback showing a blooded and heavily wounded Takuya getting sent to the hospital.
  • When Takemichi intervenes to save Takuya and fight Masataka himself, he brutally overwhelms Takemichi in their one-on-one fight. But as the latter continued getting back up, he shows his dishonorable side when he ordered his men to get his bat, breaking his deal on the fight.
  • When Mikey and Draken arrived hearing about Masataka's actions, they were displeased and unlike everyone who bowed to them, Masataka didn't as it only proves his disloyalty and envy towards the two as it would later led him and his gang to be exiled from Toman for his actions.
  • He is later recruited by Kisaki as he had a Moebius member give him and his gang knives to partake in an ambush for Draken. Despite he was manipulated into this, he wanted vengeance for how Draken humiliated him and got him exiled, in which he brought to himself.
  • He would then beat up Takemichi alongside his gang, reminding him of how weak he still is. After humiliating him and forcing him to bow, he gagged him with duct tape to prevent him from escaping as he plans to pin Draken's death on him.
  • During the fight between Toman and Moebius he ordered his gang to murder Mikey.
  • He successfully stabbed Draken during the fight between Toman and Moebius, leaving him with a fatal wound before Takemichi helped him to the hospital.
  • He and his gang would confront Takemichi, finally having enough, and decides to "execute" him out of pure sadism as he then uses the knife he was given to stab his left hand.
  • His actions were extremely traumatic to Takemichi is at ruined his life in the first timeline, and in the second timeline he still left Takemichi with extreme fear of him.
  • Unlike most of the antagonists who had redeeming qualities or a tragic background (with exceptions to Kisaki whose Freudian Excuse falls short), Masataka has no redeeming qualities nor even a proper excuse to justify his actions as his exile from Toman was justified but blamed Draken for it, showing that he refuses to acknowledge his mistakes.
  • At the end of the Manga, Masatsaka is one of the few villains who didn't reform or change themselves for the better in the third timeline, even if he did, there is no indication and proof as he never attended Takemichi's wedding (with a couple of villains like Kisaki, Izana, Hanma, Shiba going to Takemichi's wedding). This left Kiyomasa's fate ambiguous on whether he changed in the third timeline or not.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Regardless of his low resources which makes him pass the General Standards, he fails the in-story Heinous Standards compared to Tetta Kisaki, who had the most personal kills (both past and future) and had a bigger influential impact on the series. The same goes with Izana Kurokawa, who directly beat a gang leader and drove him to suicide, South Terano, who killed his own mentor and father Dino just to take over his gang (with an implied mass murder of Dino's enemies), and the recent being Haruchiyo Sanzu, who has similar resources than him, attempted to crush both Toman and the Kanto Manji Gang by manipulating the train tracks and its cargos. Even if his resources are taken to account and his actions had a major impact on Takemichi and his friends when they were his slaves, it does little to make him slightly pass in terms of personal heinousness compared to Kisaki's actions. However, given Masataka was a very personal enemy to Takemichi, it is a minor prevention.

Trivia[]

  • He is one of the two Near Pure Evils in Tokyo Revengers to not have a future counterpart, with the second being South Terano after him.
  • It is unknown if his live-action film counterpart qualifies as Near Pure Evil. Although this version and the anime counterpart share the same crimes, the only difference is the scene where Masataka beats Takemichi with a bat brutally and he remains in Toman till the meeting area.
