I administer Kamen Rider Chronicle from now on... and will be the judge of your fates. I set the rules of this world.
~ Masamune Dan's most famous quote.

Masamune Dan, or basically known as Kamen Rider Cronus, is the main antagonist in the 2016 tokusatsu superhero TV series Kamen Rider Ex-Aid. He is the founder and CEO of Genm Corp. and the father of Kuroto Dan, he is also Emu Hojo's archenemy.

He is the true mastermind who is indirectly responsible for the outbreak of the Bugster Virus and the creation of Kamen Rider Chronicle under the hands of his own son. He planned to use the game to control the lives around earth and digitize it all to become a god underneath his domain. By using the Buggle Driver II and the original Kamen Rider Chronicle Gashat, he transforms into Cronus.

He was portrayed by Hiroyuki Takami.

Biography[]

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He manipulated and abused his son Kuroto Dan into finishing Kamen Rider Chronicle and after blaming him as the one responsible for Sakurako's death, but results into the villain he was today.
  • He blackmailed Kiyonaga Hojo, Emu's father, into helping him creating Kamen Rider Chronicle and handing over his son Emu to Kuroto's care where he had him experimented.
  • Indirectly caused Zero Day and took responsibility for Kuroto's actions when the latter accused him. But he used this opportunity, knowing the creation will be complete after Kuroto outlived his usefulness for him unknowingly.
    • Because of his manipulation to his son and even after the game was complete under Parado's hands, more than hundreds of lives were lost when the game was debuted. Even shown when Parado kills five players before becoming digitized data as the result.
  • Upon his release from prison, he takes over Genm Corp. once more and takes position of the Proto Gashats, in which they contain the date of the lost lives in his hands.
  • He kills Loverica to make an example of his power in front of the Riders, even Parado and Graphite.
  • Blackmails Hiro Kagami into working for him via using Saki's data to do so. Even though he had his word to revive her, it was only for his own gain to prevent anyone from getting into his way and was willing to delete Saki's data if Hiro fails him.
  • Revived Kiriya Kujo into working for him, but later backfires when it was his own mistake.
  • He increased Kamen Rider Chronicle's value by making a event where the players will have to conquer the latter. Knowing it will keep the game going.
  • Blackmailed Hiro further into getting rid of Emu's transformation capabilities by having Parado killed, otherwise he'll delete Saki for the sake of it.
  • Forced Hiro into making the decision to sabotage Taiga's surgery and killed him.
  • After failing to do what he would please him, Masamune didn't hesitate to erase Saki's data right in front of Hiro's eyes. Which was one of the biggest impacts that made Hiro to sacrifice her life for another one, in return was something he ultimately chose in the end.
  • Infected Nico Saiba with the Gamedeus Virus as an attempt to blackmail Emu into killing Parado under high pressure of saving her life as possible.
  • Having to loss against Emu and Parado, Masamune unlocks his "reset" ability and evades the Hyper Muteki Gashat for awhile, but regains back the Proto Gashats under that circumstance.
  • Reprogrammed Gamedeus into spreading a mass pandemic where it will give him the chance to digitize the world.
  • Upon Gamedeus' defeat, he kills the Bugster and absorbs it along with the game into himself to achieve greater power.
  • Causes another pandemic once more, but the virus he enhance got worse as it turns everyone into Bugsters when it widespread.
  • Attempts to kill Nico Saiba since she was the only player to succeed in finishing the game.
  • Was ready to digitize the whole world after becoming Super Gamedeus and attempts to kill the Riders when he has had about enough with them
  • Upon being delighted of Parado's death and after defeated the Riders, including Emu now in despair. He mocks to him about human lives being something that should be controlled as he was about to end him for good.
  • After being defeated, he refuses Emu's offer of redeeming himself and kills himself since he absorbed the game within. Because of this, the victims who lost their lives and turned into data from the game will never be saved, which was one of the biggest impacts in the series as it makes it more difficult for Emu and the rest to find a vaccine to save the victims, even with the Proto Gashats at their disposal.
  • In the end, he has no full remorse for his actions whatsoever. Even though it was because of his wife's death and after discovering the virus, everything that happened to him was his own fault in someway and it doesn't excuse his actions, as Sakurako's death only made his motive a selfish one, not to mention megalomaniacal. Which could be the result of his current beliefs in human lives.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He truly loved and cared for his wife Sakurako Dan, no matter how horrible he was to the point he turned insane and blamed his son for the virus that infected her. But while it drove him to his villainy, the redeeming quality showed more of Masamune's human side where he was seen taking pictures of her in different outfits and dresses, also no participating in Kuroto's attempts of saving her when he created Zombie Chronicle as it would disgrace her name and even stated she was alive inside him. Despite not being regretful of his actions, he still loves her in deep down in his heart where it will always have a place for her.

Trivia[]

  • He is the only Kamen Rider Ex-Aid villain to be Near Pure Evil. In contrast, he was originally Pure Evil before the events of Kamen Rider Ex-Aid: Another Ending. Where it was shown he still loved his wife and stated that she'll always be in his heart, thus was classified as Near Pure Evil instead.
    • In addition, he is the very first and only Kamen Rider villain in the Neo Heisei era who's a main antagonist in his series to be Near Pure Evil.
