Mary Jones is the main antagonist of the 2009 film Precious adapted by the 1996 book Push. She is the abusive mother of the titular character and wants revenge on her for "stealing her man".

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- She allows her boyfriend, Carl to repeatedly rape Precious since she was 3, resulting in her getting AIDS and giving birth to 2 kids. It's even hinted at she took part and some of the actions.
- It was stated that as Precious was giving birth to Mongo, Mary was kicking her in the head and insulting her.
- She throws a pan at Precious' head and knocks her out simply for not getting her cigarettes.
- She harshly verbally abuses Precious after the principal recommends her to an alternative school, calling her a bunch of vulgar names and saying she should've aborted her. When Precious defends herself, she beats her.
- She makes Precious cook her some food and when she doesn't like it, forces Precious to eat despite her not being hungry.
- She tries to manipulate a social worker with Mongo into giving her more welfare checks.
- She throws her new grandson Abdul on the floor and gets into a fight with Precious, blaming her for everything that happened.
- When Precious and Abdul run away from her, she throws a TV at them in their escape which is attempted murder and destroys Precious' room right after.
- She overall is a narcissistic abusive mother who values her gains more than others, so much that even her own mother hates her.
- She clearly doesn't care for her grandchildren as she only used them to impress people and had no qualms on hurting them.
- She is hypocritical as well as she calls Precious fat. but is bigger than her and frequently calls her dumb. but makes 0 effort into giving her an education, only using her to collect welfare.
What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]
- She expressed some remorse at the end for her treatment of Precious crying when she wouldn't come back and referring to her as her baby when coming clean to the abuse. However, she still blames her for everything, so it is still minor.
- She shows some insecurity from not being loved by Carl and being desperate for his attention. The main reason why she is so abusive to Precious is because Carl gave her more attention than Mary.
