Knowledge and patience, the only counter to greater skill.
~ Crassus to Hilarius.
Then he and I stand the same, each believes himself the hero, the other, villain.  It is for history to decide who is mistaken.
~ Crassus to Laeta.

Marcus Licinius Crassus is the main villain in Spartacus: War of the Damned, the second and last archenemy of Spartacus. He was a extremely wealthy Roman, later the imperator of his legions and the supreme leader of the Roman armies against Spartacus.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He deliberately sent a message to Spartacus where Cossinius and Furius were hiding, so they both die because of him.
  • He performs decimation and forces his son to participate in it and kill his best friend. This also shows that if his son draw wrong stone, the imperator would have watched his painful death as well, because the rule and the punishment apply to him as well.
  • The survivors must camp with slaves and whores as punishment. The order, of course, also applies to his son.
  • Even though Laeta helped them, Crassus sells her to Heracleo as a slave.
  • After capturing Sinuessa, the captured rebels are brutally tortured and executed (tearing apart with chains, smashing a couple’s head with a hammers). He watches this, laughing and cheerfully. He then tells Metelus that he not to give the city back to the survived citizens, he give the area those how deserves.
  • When Metellus talks about Kore escaping, Crassus beats his face bloody. Then Crassus threatens him that if he speaks against him again, he will spend all his money on retaliation.
  • He orders his son to behead Crixus.
  • He crucifies Agron.
  • He crucifies all the rebels who were captured (even women and possibly children). He even crucified Kore.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He really loved his son (true after learning what he did pretty much, his love for him swayed).
  • In some cases, such as his son did and Kore’s crucifixion, Marcus shows a little sympathy and remorse.
