I sacrifice. For knowledge.
~ Mademoiselle.

Mademoiselle is the main antagonist of the 2008 French-Canadian horror film Martyrs and its 2015 remake of the same name. She is the leader of the a nameless cult whose sole goal is to discover the secret of the Afterlife and what comes after death.

She was played by the late Catherine Bégin.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • In her quest to unlock the secret of life before death, she has people kidnapped and horrifically tortured, mutilated, experimented, abused, as she believes they'll become "Martyrs" who are people who accept the pain and manage to survive the torture and abuse and "transcends", being able to see the afterlife in the process. Lucie was one of these victims as a child, but managed to escape from the cult's grasp but her mind was broken and started to see a imaginary monster that keeps haunting her (it's is revealed to be another victim Lucie failed to save when she escaped).
  • She also has them forced fed some disgusting unknown substance which I think they used before they torture their victims. They primarily target young women because she believes they have a likely chance to be transcended to "Martyrism".
  • She has one of her henchmen shoots a victim that was released by Lucie's friend (the woman was badly mutilated and her mind is completely broken).
  • She has Anna captured and orders her men to begin the brutal torture. Anna is beaten several times to a bloody pulp while being forced feed by some disgusting substance they made, and they repeatedly do this for several weeks.
  • She has Anna skinned alive as a final process of ascending to "Martyrism", which she manages to somehow survive but is left in a catatonic state.
  • Even though she is apparently affable to Anna, she still orders her men to torture her and, in the end, that theyskins her alive, discarding this possible redeeming quality.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She's somewhat of a well intention extremist, albeit in a twisted way, as she genuinely believes in her goals and philosophy and wanted to learn about the Afterlife so that others would know too and know what they'll go after they die.
