~ MB to Madeline and Samus. |
MB, also known as Melissa Bergman is the main antagonist of Metroid: Other M. She is an android created by the Galactic Federation scientists who program her to control the Metroids and the Space Pirates, though she forms a maternal bond with the director, Madeline Bergman who calls her Melissa to give her a more human name, but as MB became sentient, she eventually took a turn for the worse and caused chaos within the BOTTLE SHIP, prompting Madeline Bergman to send the "Baby's Cry" distress call, which Samus Aran and the 07th Platoon received.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- While MB started as an Android who was programmed to do good, she eventually became sentient and develops a moral agency to a degree where she can understand right and wrong and chooses to be on the side of evil.
- MB viciously rebelled and killed her persecutors when they tried to apprehend her and reprogram her AI, and she used her telepathy to commune with the Space Pirates and had numerous scientists as well as those inside the BOTTLE SHIP killed, except Madeline who sends a distress call and goes into hiding.
- When Samus Aran and the 07th Platoon, led by Adam Malkovich arrived, she had the Space Pirates attack them and one of the creatures nearly kills Anthony Higgs had Samus not arrived.
- When Samus first meets her, she was distrustful and fled due to the Deleter's interference, but during their second encounter, she lies about her identity by calling herself Madeline Bergman and tells her that they created a Mother Brain clone to control the Metroids.
- In addition, while she tells Samus about the Metroids in Sector Zero, she deliberately leaves out important information that they are genetically altered to be invulnerable to ice and low temperatures and sends her there unprepared so that she would be killed by the Metroids. Instead of Samus, Adam went through with disconnecting Sector Zero to eliminate the Metroids at the cost of his own life.
- She sent the BOTTLE SHIP on a collision course with the Galactic Federation HQ. Had Anthony Higgs not slammed the emergency brakes on time, she would have taken thousands of lives.
- She has killed the Deleter when he came into view, though she did this in self-defense as he was trying to kill her, and he was responsible for the deaths of Maurice Favreau and K.G. Misawa as well as create many problems for Samus and the Platoon.
- Even when she supposedly recalls her human side as Madeline requested, it isn't a true redemption as MB summoned the Space Pirates against the Galactic Federation, along with Samus herself, even though she was a genuinely good person and never wronged her, and she had passed the Freeze Gun to Madeline under the belief that she would help her fight them.
What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]
- She fails the Heinous In-Story Standards to the rest of the villains who were notable for doing so much worse than her.
- She has a somewhat tragic background as she was mistreated and viewed as a tool by the corrupt faction of the Galactic Federation and felt betrayed by them, and Madeline's failure to help her had her feeling abandoned, which also made her somewhat insecure and believe that all humans are evil and must be judged. Even Samus and Madeline were sympathetic towards her and left to wonder if she really was evil, or just misunderstood, but given her lack of true remorse, does not redeem herself and was still willing to hurt innocent people, this is generally minor.
- She does show some genuine care for Madeline Bergman as she was the only person on the BOTTLE SHIP that she spared and has saved her from being shot by a Freeze Gun from the Federation ambush.
Trivia[]
- She is the only Metroid villain, so far, to be Near Pure Evil.
