“ | Well, I knew if I killed enough people in the most gruesome possible ways, they'd send me to your prison. But to get into your cell… I had a little help. | „ |
~ Lisa explaining her master plan to Sideshow Bob of how she ended up in his prison cell. |
“ | Professor Lisa had no idea that she was my accomplice. But she's gone now. She was my last victim. Or rather… second-to-last. | „ |
~ Lisa explaining more of her plan then preparing to kill Bob. |
Lisa Marie Simpson is the main antagonist of "Ei8ht", the second segment from The Simpsons Halloween special episode "Treehouse of Horror XXXIV". She is from an alternate timeline where Sideshow Bob succeeded in killing her brother, Bart, right in front of her in the episode "Cape Feare", which would result in her developing a split personality that drives her alter ego to become a vengeful serial killer so she could kill Bob thirty years later.
Like her main timeline counterpart, she is voiced by Yeardley Smith.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- She targeted four innocent firstborns whose houses she broke into, had them restrained, and gruesomely murdered them with a butcher knife while they were still conscious, using their blood to taunt Professor Lisa with messages that say "[victim's name] is the first", then desecrating their bodies in various horrific ways, with the methods including:
- Cutting Rod Flanders in half by the torso, later then using his bloody intestines to mockingly greet Lisa, finishing by taking her time to use his blood to play Tic-Tac-Toe and Solitaire for fun, the latter at which she cheated on just to show she doesn't play by the rules.
- Piercing Martin Prince to a wall through his heart and turning him into a human clock with his severed arms and innards hanging out to function as moving hands around a circle of bloody time markers behind him.
- Flaying off Dermott Spuckler's skin then hanging it on a wire outside in open view above his skinless corpse on the ground.
- Decapitating Sherri Mackleberry, cutting her eyes out, severing her other body parts, and using her organs to create a complex Rube Goldberg machine just to activate a coffee maker, an act that was so sadistic, it managed to impress even Sideshow Bob, a psychopathic murderer himself.
- Her murders would lead each of the victim's loved ones to cry in mourning, which has an onscreen effect at Sherri's funeral given Terri's grief.
- She murdered her close friend and partner, Officer Nelson, at the slaughterhouse by sticking a meat hook into the back of his mouth and then proceeding to place six more in his arms, hooking his corpse up for bloody display.
- She tricked Professor Lisa into finding her base so she would get incriminated and sent to prison, effectively "killing" her personality through this.
- She sadistically admitted she planned those gruesome murders after being caught all just to end up in Bob's cell so she could murder him as revenge, using her sister Maggie as her accomplice, then repeatedly stabbed him to death while dancing to the HMS Pinafore music, also not without having him step on a rake one last time just for humiliation.
- While Bob deserved what he got for murdering Bart, it was in no way justified on Lisa's part as he was already serving life in prison, with her doing this out of personal vengeance and sadism rather than any extremism or noble goal and making the reasons for her other crimes extremely petty.
- While being Lisa split-personality formed by her trauma that she didn't know existed, she shows clear moral agency as she is aware of the existence of her alter-ego, played an active role in manipulating her alter-ego by using her as a pawn, and showed she is fully in control of her body after the "death" of Professor Lisa.
- Unlike most villains in The Simpsons, she is not treated as a parody or played for laughs. While she does have a few comedic moments, such as the way Professor Lisa describes some of her over-the-top murders, Bob calling her split personality an overused trope and dancing to Cape Feare while preparing to kill Bob, they are brief, and do not detract from the seriousness of her crimes, which are played for straight horror. If anything, unlike most comedic moments in The Simpsons, which are played for laughs, they only emphasize just how sadistic Lisa is.
What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]
- She is genuinely tragic due to her experience of witnessing Bart getting gruesomely slashed to death by Bob when she was eight years old in "Cape Feare," then ended up experiencing the untimely death of her parents, which permanently traumatized her over the next thirty years and resulted in her split personality.
- She loved her family, as her actions stem from wanting to avenge the murder of her brother and most likely the subsequent deaths of her parents.
Trivia[]
- This version of Lisa Simpson is the only Near Pure Evil villain from The Simpsons to be completely taken as a serious threat and not be prevented too much by comedy, which is ironically the only prevention for the other non-canon Near Pure Evils from the series who have no redeeming qualities (and one of two preventions for Russ Cargill.)
- To make a point of how impactful this version of Lisa Simpson is, the segment shows that her origins happen in a universe where Sideshow Bob realized Bart Simpson's ruse in "Cape Feare" and proceeded to messily slash him in front of Lisa. Thus, it's theorized that had this happened in canon, maybe the mainline Lisa Simpson would have become Near Pure Evil as well.
- Michael Boyle of /Film enjoyed the alternative ending of the segment, voicing the contrast between the humor of the change and expressed satisfaction with watching Lisa getting "to be unapologetically evil for once" as opposed to her portrayal as "a victim or observer" in other "Treehouse of Horror" episodes. He considered "Ei8ht" as likely the most disturbing "Treehouse of Horror" segment to date.
- Her episode is the first ever to have a "Viewer discretion advised" warning due to the extremely bloody murders she commits. Even for Treehouse Of Horror standards, as said episodes are usually more violent than regular Simpsons episodes.
- She (or Maggie) may be responsible for two additional unseen murders (which the police imply), with the victims being in Sherri's apartment complex and the slaughterhouse. If these are confirmed to be related to her, it would make her even worse.
