When they arrived in Whitestone, they came as allies. They brought dark ambitions and allowed no one to stand in their way. Not even children. They slaughtered us in cold blood, seizing my ancestral home.

Come visit us sometime, Percival. You’re always welcome back home!

~ Delilah’s last words before Cassandra kills her.

Lady Delilah and Lord Silas Briarwood are the main antagonists of the first season of The Legend of Vox Machina.

They were a couple emersed in the dark arts who launched a brutal massacre against the ruling De Rolo family of the city of Whitestone 5 years before the events of the series to take control of the city for their own twisted ends. They are the archenemies of Percival De Rolo.

Delilah is voiced by Grey DeLisle and Silas is voiced by Matthew Mercer (Who also voiced Haiji Towa from Danganronpa Ultra Despair Girls).

Their Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Them Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • They massacred the De Rolo family in a violent coup and seized control of Whitestone, murdering every single member of the family with the exception of siblings Percival and Cassandra. This scarred Percy and Cassandra for life and is responsible for sending Percy down a dark quest of vengeance that nearly consumed him.
  • They tortured Percy and Cassandra (both of whom were barely teenagers) for weeks in front of each other for mystical info about their family home even though they repeatedly told them they genuinely had no idea what they were talking about.
  • When Percival and Cassandra attempted to escape, they had Dr. Ripley hunt them down and although Percy was able to escape, they captured Cassandra and proceeded to subject her to years worth of torment, torturing and brainwashing her into being their sleeper agent.
  • They oppressed the people of Whitestone for years and drained the life out of their sacred Suntree, holding Cassandra hostage to prevent them from rebelling, and using giants to enforce their violent will to the point that the once paradise of a city descended into complete ruin with people being scared to even leave their homes. No one was allowed to leave the city and they were all held captive.
  • When their associate Dr. Ripley finished her work as part of their contract, they prevented her from leaving and when she objected to continuing to work for them, they imprisoned her in the dungeon.
  • They brainwashed Sovereign Uriel, leader of Tal'dorei, into not investigating Whitestone and the allegations against them.
  • After recognizing Percival at the banquet as among the members of Vox Machina, Delilah purposefully slandered his family name and claimed the De Rolo’s were disgracefully incompetent caretakers who abdicated the throne, whose children looted Whitestone's treasures, and that they were an embarrassment to the city just to spite and provoke Percival.
  • They brainwashed Vax when they found him investigating their room and had him try to murder his sister and the rest of Vox Machina before engaging in the battle themselves and nearly killing them.
  • They abandoned their loyal and young servant boy to the hands of Vox Machina to escape themselves when guards were alerted to the scene and fled though not before Delilah mockingly told Percival he was always welcome back home.
  • After discovering that Vox Machina had taken their book detailing their plans, they went to a burial ground so Delilah could summon wraiths to ambush them with the wraiths violently murdering Captain Howarth’s guards and nearly killing him and Vox Machina. After this, Delilah sends her mutant wolves to ambush Vox Machina on their way to Whitestone and successfully retrieve the book.
  • They pretended to invite a few of their poor subjects including two children for dinner and a nice change of clothes just to warp them into looking like the Vox Machina members, hang them, and display their corpses on the Suntree to mock Vox Machina when they arrived at Whitestone.
    • What makes this worse was the fact that Delilah pretended to be polite and soft spoken to one of the children, telling her she had won a “special prize” and getting her hopes up with her happily waving her a thankful hand to them before they smirked and proceeded to viciously murder them all.
  • They had the main resistance hideout ambushed by one of their giants and viciously massacred them and took their leader Archie hostage.
  • They had Archie brutally tortured by Captain Stonefell and Duke Vedmire.
  • After Vox Machina burned down their prison and killed Captain Stonefield, Delilah came to manipulate Cassandra after she learned of her brother’s survival and tell her that regardless, this changed nothing for her.
  • Delilah murdered her steward and used his blood to summon an undead army to wipe out Vox Machina and the rebels, being responsible for wiping out most of them including their leader Archie in their darkest hour and would have murdered them all had a empowered Pike not shown up at the last second.
  • They had a brainwashed Cassandra trap Vox Machina and Dr. Ripley to boil alive in acid, but not before psychologically breaking Percy by making Cassandra denounce him for “abandoning” her and proclaim that her true family was the Briarwoods. They also brainwashed Vax who was the only one who was able to get on the other side and made him activate the acid trap to boil alive his friends.
  • They planned to sacrifice either Cassandra or now Vax for their ritual with Delilah bragging that they were now spoiled for choice.
  • Their ultimate goal was to use a ritual at the ziggurat they had their associates augment with residuum to release the dark creature known as the Whispered One to decimate the world in exchange for granting them immortality, uncaring for all the lives they would destroy.
  • After Vox Machina kills Silas during their final battle against them, Delilah uses her own blood to attempt to bring forth the Whispered One to decimate the world and when Vex shoots her, she promises to make Vox Machina suffer for killing Silas and unleashes a horrific spell to kill her which Keyleth intercepts, sacrificing herself and nearly dying in the process.
  • After her spell fails, Vox Machina risks their lives to save her from a demon possessed Percy, and Percy forgives her for everything she did to him, she mocks them all, showing no gratitude at all to the heroes and calling Percy spineless just like his parents before bragging that even if they defeated her, the Whispered One would come and when he did, cities would fall and rivers would run red with blood before Cassandra kills her once and for all.
  • While this series is a dark comedy, their actions are completely taken seriously and they barely have any moments that could be considered comedic. The only ones really are when Delilah snarks that Silas takes her to the “best of places” when they go to a burial ground so she could summon wraiths to massacre Vox Machina or when she used a spell to silence Scanlan and taunted him that she thinks everyone prefers him this way while trying to kill him, proving that even their very limited comedy is just sadistic “humor”.

What Prevents Them from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • They genuinely and deeply love each other, as Delilah broke down in tears when Silas was near death before the events of the series and went out of her way to save him, and again when he died officially, and while Silas never openly showed that exact emotion towards her, he never betrays her, and is genuinely happy when around her.
  • They have a backstory played for sympathy. Long ago, Silas was dying from a fatal illness so Delilah went to an ancient library searching for any info to save him and was drawn to the book of the Whispered One which she used to save Silas though it turned him into a vampire and became his servants ever since to attain immortality together. Though considering everything they did, it’s a pretty minor preventation at this point to say the least.

Trivia[]

  • They are so far the only villains in The Legend of Vox Machina to be Near Pure Evil.
  • While they're currently Near Pure Evil, there's the slight possibility this may change once the prequel comic, The Legend of Vox Machina: The Whitestone Chronicles: Ripley, releases, which will focus on how Ripley came in contact the Briarwoods and their associates.
