~ One of Killer Croc's Game Over quotes |
Killer Croc, otherwise known as Waylon Jones, is a major antagonist in the Batman: Arkham franchise.
He is one of Batman's most famous rogues in his rogues' gallery and the arch-nemesis of the Oficial Aaron Cash. Having been born with a horrible skin condition that made him resemble a crocodile and being abused and mistreated by his alcoholic aunt and others his entire life, Jones subsequently snapped and gave into his feral urges, turning into the cannibalistic serial killer known as Killer Croc.
In the three main games, he was voiced by Steve Blum, who also voiced Doom Ma Geddon in Regular Show and a disguised Lady Arkham in Batman: The Telltale Series. In Arkham Origins, he was voiced by Khary Payton.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- Gaining a huge hatred for humanity, he eventually became a cannibalistic serial killer and an assassin for hire.
- Despite the Arkham series' ridiculously high heinous standards, Croc nonetheless manages to stand out due to being a real cannibal who has killed and mutilated numerous people, all while having very low resources.
Arkham Origins[]
- On Christmas Eve, he was hired as one of eight assassins to kill Batman via "Black Mask" (who was really the Joker in disguise).
- He transported "Black Mask" through Blackgate Penitentiary and threw Commissioner Loeb into the execution chamber to die on Black Mask's orders.
- He fought and tried to devour Batman at the rooftop of Blackgate.
- When Batman interrogated him for data on "Black Mask", Croc simply mocked him and told him that he would die at the hands of the other seven assassins.
- When Joker prompted a jail break at Blackgate later on, Croc tried to kill Batman only to be scared off by means of a bullet from Commissioner Gordon.
Between Arkham Origins and Arkham Asylum[]
- After being placed in Arkham Asylum, he acted hostile toward the guards and informed his psychiatrist Dr. Whistler of him killing and ingesting his victims.
- He was one of the villains that the Joker invited over to help torture the unfortunate Jason Todd in an abandoned wing of Arkham Asylum, for over a year. Croc helped by using his brute strength to beat Jason up. This kind of made Croc play a part in Jason's descent into villainy as the Arkham Knight.
- In an attempt to escape Arkham, he bit off and ate Officer Aaron Cash's hand, which led to Cash having to update it with a hook and gaining an deep intense hatred for Croc.
- When Dr. Whistler called him out on almost killing Cash, Croc felt no regret for it and even mocked him, resulting in her leaving him in disgust, however not before Croc claimed that he would have her as his next victim.
Arkham Asylum[]
- When Batman arrived with an imprisoned Joker at Arkham, Croc threatened to eat Batman and had to be stunned by his electric powered collar to be compelled to move along.
- During the breakout at Arkham, he horrifically maimed and almost cannibalized Scarecrow whilst he was combating Batman. Even though Scarecrow deserved it for trying to contaminate Gotham's water supply with fear toxin, this caused him to blame Batman for the incident and become obsessed with getting revenge on him, which could make Croc partially at fault for his rise to power in Arkham Knight.
- Later whilst Batman gained spores from a unique flower in Croc's lair to treat the TITAN-enhanced thugs, Croc tried to kill Batman numerous instances before being defeated.
Arkham City[]
- After being transferred to Arkham City, he threatened Batman within the sewers and after realizing he was near death, decided to wait and stated that he would feast on his corpse.
- He apparently killed numerous individuals who attempted to arrest him before being captured.
Arkham Knight[]
- He managed to break out of confinement on an Iron Heights airship and crashed it into Gotham Bay, killing numerous people onboard.
- He abducted Warden Ranken from Batman and threatened him to treat his condition. When Ranken said that he couldn't, Croc tried to kill him for torturing and experimenting on him before being stopped by Batman and Nightwing.
- He tried to kill Batman and Nightwing before being apprehended for good.
- Upon being incarcerated again, he threatened to devour the rest of Aaron Cash if he got loose.
- Although his torture at the hands of Ranken is played for sympathy, it doesn't make him a Scapegoat given how grotesque his crimes are, so it's hard to say that he did not have some thing like this coming.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He's genuinely tragic as he was born with a horrific skin condition that caused him to be mistreated and outcast by everyone, being labelled a "freak". Furthermore, he was raised by his alcoholic aunt who regularly abused him. All this eventually caused him to snap and become the cannibalistic murderer he is today.
- He's played for sympathy in Arkham Knight as he was experimented on and tortured by Warden Ranken, causing his condition to become even worse. His reason for taking Ranken hostage is so that he could cure him and get revenge. Even Batman, Nightwing and Aaron Cash take pity on him for what's happened.
- He cared for his fellow freaks at the circus he worked at and their deaths at the hands of an angry mob was the incident that pushed him over the edge into hating humanity. He even tracked them down and killed them to avenge his fallen friends.
- He also seems to care for, or at least sympathize with, the other prisoners Warden Ranken was experimenting on, specifically saying he'll pay for what he did to them all rather than just caring about himself. He can also be seen helping some of them to their feet during his fight against Batman and Nightwing.
Trivia[]
- He is currently the only version of Killer Croc to be Near Pure Evil.
