“ | Next time I see a kid wearing a bicycle helmet, I want to smack the sh-t out of him — you know, for his own good. | „ |
~ Kenny. |
Kenny is a supporting antagonist in the fifth and final season of Breaking Bad and a posthumous antagonist in its sequel film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.
In his characterisation, he was the second-in-command of Jack Welker's Neo-Nazi Gang. This involved helping Jack arrange the murder of ten prison inmates on a contract from drug distributor Walter White, before later collaborating with the gang's other criminal activities.
He was portrayed by Kevin Rankin, who also played Malcolm Graham in Lucifer.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- While it's true that the Breaking Bad franchise's heinous standard is very high with crimes such as drug dealing, mass murder, psychological abuse, and torture being commonplace, Kenny has far less resources than most of the worse villains in the franchise such as Walter White, Gus Fring, Hector Salamanca, and Don Eladio who are all drug lords with vast wealth and immense resources. Kenny, on the other hand, is just the secondary leader of a Neo-Nazi group and has less influence than his boss Jack Welker.
- Furthermore, despite having similar resources to Lalo Salamanca and the Cousins who kill more people (with Lalo killing 22 people and the Cousins killing 43 people), Kenny still stands out alongside them due to being a more personal enemy of Walt given he forced him to watch Jack kill his brother-in-law Hank, who is also a DEA agent trying to uphold the law, which would severely impact Walt in an emotional way and lead to the relationship between the White family and Schrader family falling apart due to Hank's death, which also pushed Walt to kidnap his infant daughter Holly to make an escape from his angry wife Skyler and his worried son Walter White Jr., who both turned against him and blamed him for Hank's murder (even though it was actually Jack who killed him, not Walt himself).
- While he has a few comedic moments such as jokingly saying he'd slap a kid wearing a bicycle helmet for his own good, they don't detract from his evilness and just show his sadism and cruelty. Thus, he is still taken seriously in-universe.
In the Past[]
- As the second-in-command of Jack Welker's Neo-Nazi group, he has most likely committed numerous crimes in the past.
Breaking Bad[]
Season 5[]
- Directly assisted Jack in arranging the brutal murders of ten inmates within a two-minute timeframe to prevent them from testifying against Walter White.
- Helped Jack, Todd and the rest of his gang in slaughtering Declan's crew.
- Casually says he'd want to "smack the shit" out of a child wearing a bicycle helmet "for his own good". Although it could have just been an exaggeration, he still makes a joke of it even after Jack silently glares at him.
- Participated in the shoot-out that killed Steve Gomez and Hank Schrader, even being the one to start it by being the first person to open fire.
- Halts Hank when he tries to pick up and use Gomez’s shotgun to kill him and the other Neo Nazis, even deciding he wants to have it to keep for himself.
- Restrains Walter and makes him watch Hank get executed by Jack.
- Steals at least $70 million from Walter White.
- Kidnaps and enslaves Jesse Pinkman for six months.
- When Jack ordered Todd to kill Jesse's girlfriend Andrea, Kenny makes him watch.
- When Walt returned to Albuquerque and confronted Jack, Kenny tried to kill him directly instead of just watching like the others did.
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie[]
- In a flashback it's been shown Kenny was one of the Neo-Nazis that were torturing Jesse throughout the six month timeskip, taking sadistic delight in doing so alongside Neil Kandy, to the point even someone like Todd remarked on how he could break his leg,
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He fails the Heinous Standards to Jack and Todd as he only participates in their crimes. His only unique crime is trying to personally kill Walt, which itself is essentially just “Kill the hero” villainy and thus isn't enough to make him stand out from the others.
- He's shown to have a genuine friendship with Jack and the other Nazis, having friendly conversations with them. This proves he’s loyal to Jack as well as genuinely affable to him and Todd. He also did show genuine affability towards Walt and Neil Kandy.
