Kazuo Tengan is the main antagonist of Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School's Future Arc. He was the leader of the Future Foundation, but was in reality the mastermind behind the Final Killing Game, who set this up to drive Ryota Mitarai into brainwashing the entire world into hope.

He was voiced by Hidekatsu Shibata in the Japanese version, and by Mark Stoddard (who also voices Daruma Ujiko in My Hero Academia) in the English dubbed version.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Although he lets Takumi and Misaki go stop Shūji, he put a bomb on Misaki, intending to kill her if they didn’t stop Shūji or stop the bombs.
  • He orchestrated a killing game using his own comrades at Future Foundation. He begins it by having 3 security guards killed and gassing everyone at the meeting and then moving them to the replica of their headquarters.
  • He lies about the rules via Monokuma that there is a traitor that will kill them when in actuality the victims are driven to suicide.
  • He gives everyone a forbidden action that if they break their wrist band will inject them lethally. This is especially cruel to Daisaku Bandai and Kyoko Kirigiri who are given forbidden actions that are guaranteed to kill them no matter what they do. As a result Bandai dues and Kyoko enters a coma, only managing to survive due to Seiko’s antidote and Mikan reviving her. Even worse Jin Kirigiri, Kyoko’s dad, was a friend of his which makes his actions even worse.
    • This also makes him responsible for Izayio and Kizakura’s deaths as they died from their forbidden actions.
  • He uses the Suicide Video to drive the players into killing themselves including
    • The Great Gozu, who was forced to stab himself in the heart multiple times and suspend himself in midair with wires.
    • Seiko Kimura, who was forced to bang her head against the wall, crucify herself, and then stab herself multiple times.
    • Ruruka Ando, who was forced to impale herself in the stomach, slash her own legs, and choke herself to death with her own candy.
  • He deliberately misled Kyosuke into thinking everyone was Ultimate Despair by taking advantage of his forbidden action(answering a question with a lie) by being careful with his wording. This cause Kyosuke to kill Tengan and then later kill his best friend Juzo due to the false information and later try to kill Makoto.
  • He nearly drove Makoto to kill himself with a knife via the Suicide Video, only to be stopped by a mortally wounded Juzo.
  • He had a video prepared after his death and had it sent to Ryota, revealing that he was the mastermind all along in an effort to drive him over the edge and have him use the Hope Video.
  • He successfully used the Killing Game to drive Ryota to use the Hope Video, which would have removed all of humanity's free will, and is treated as worse than death in universe.
  • While he seems genuinely affable at first, it is all a façade as he has no problem sacrificing all of his comrades to have his plan succeed and shows active enjoyment at their suffering.
  • While he did watch the Despair Video, he did it under his own free will, knowing what it would do to him, meaning he does still have agency.
  • While Danganronpa has a high heinous standard, Tengan easily stands out for the brutal manner he forces people to commit suicide and trying to put the entire world in a fate worse than death via the Hope Video.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He is an extremist as he genuinely wants to bring hope to the world and get rid of despair and believes the Hope video to be the only way. Although this is a minor prevention as in the universe the plan is considered especially horrible due to stripping people of their free will and in a way is just as bad as forcing despair on people.
  • He was affable to Hajime and gave him good advice about whether or not to take part in the Izuru Kamukura Project, even telling him that being normal is nothing to fear. Nothing indicates this was a facade.
