His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Out of misanthropy and obsession with sea life, he plots to destroy modern civilization by hijacking British and Russian submarines and using them to launch a nuclear attack on Moscow and New York City, sparking a nuclear war that will wipe out most of humanity, in order to create a new society under the sea.
- He kills his secretary by feeding her to a shark for stealing secret information.
- He murders two of his associates, Professor Markovitz and Dr. Bechmann, in order to get out of paying them.
- He sends the assassin Jaws to murder anyone in receipt of secret plans that were stolen by his secretary, resulting in the deaths of Aziz Fekkesh and Max Kalba.
- After hijacking an American submarine sent to investigate him, he threatens to poison the crew with cyanide gas if they don't surrender.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He appears to be a well-intentioned extremist, as his reason for wanting to create a new society under the sea is because he believes that modern society is irredeemably corrupt and that starting anew under the sea will give humanity a chance to build a utopian society.
- He slightly fails the heinous standard to Hugo Drax, who also planned to wipe out most of humanity with the less noble goal of exterminating all those he deems biologically inferior and kills his victims in similarly horrible ways. However, Stromberg is the only villain in the series apart from Drax whose plans would have killed a majority of humanity (Lyutsifer Safin is from a different continuity) so this is a minor prevention.
Trivia[]
- Karl Stromberg and Lyutsifer Safin in the reboot series are the only James Bond villains to be Near Pure Evil, and Stromberg is also the only James Bond Near Pure Evil from the Roger Moore era.
