~ Heisenberg to Ethan in the Beginning of his boss fight |
“ | Oh Ethan, such a disappointment. I thought we could join forces against that bitch Miranda. Truly, truly disappointing. She took me. Took us. To be her children. She locked us away in the village. Decades of being forced to serve her. Can you even understand that humiliation? I'm not like my siblings. I want nothing more than to be free of that bitch. So I need power. Enough power to destroy her. These are the fruits of my power. The strong will destroy the weak. That's the way of the world. You should have never refused me, Ethan. | „ |

Lord Karl Heisenberg is the secondary antagonist of the 2021 survival horror game Resident Evil Village.
A member of the Four Houses that serve under Mother Miranda, Heisenberg is the most dangerous and intelligent of the four lords, as well as the last one that Ethan Winters has to confront. He runs his own factory on the outskirts of Miranda's village in Eastern Europe, creating an army of Soldats from human test subjects and machinery as part of his plans to overthrow Mother Miranda.
He was voiced by Hiroshi Shirokuma in Japanese and Neil Newbon in English, who also voiced Nicholai Ginovaef in Resident Evil 3 Remake
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Doesn’t care at all about his adopted siblings.
- Served Miranda as a lord/minion for decades.
- After being seen as a failure by Miranda he planned a secret rebellion against her by spending time in his factory experimenting and making Soldats, who are basically just male corpses with Mechanical additions to their bodies with drills for arms, and by 2021 there appeared to be hundreds to thousands of Soldats made, he even planned on using live bodies.
- Used Lycans to experiment with his Soldats.
- Played a part in ripping Rosemary into 4 pieces with him keeping the torso part.
- Helped Miranda with her genocide of the Village.
- Kidnaps Ethan when he finds him going to Castle Dimitrescu.
- Makes Ethan go through a death run filled with Lycans and traps when his fate is in Heisenberg’s hands.
- Puts Ethan through a test by making him go to the stronghold with a lot of lycans and Urias.
- When Ethan arrives in the factory, Heisenberg proposes to work together with Ethan to use Rose as a weapon to kill Miranda which enrages Ethan, and he refuses, which enrages Heisenberg in turn and pushes Ethan into a hole with Sturm, a Soldat with a propeller head, but not before giving Ethan a last chance but Ethan still refuses.
- Sends Sturm and Soldats to kill Ethan while monologuing about his time in the Village and how he will use Rose to kill Miranda regardless whether Ethan cooperates or not.
- Sends Sturm to Kill Ethan when he reaches the upper floors of the Factory.
- When Ethan tries to Escape the factory, Heisenberg reveals himself and mutates into a giant mechanical monstrosity and throws Ethan back down, in an attempt to kill him if not for the water at the bottom of the factory.
- After Ethan makes it to the surface in a metal/polymer composite tank he fights Ethan himself in his new form while Heisenberg says that Ethan's corpse will be part of his army.
- When his factory was blown up by Chris, he said he was going to kill him but first he will kill Ethan.
- Once Ethan loses the tank and Heisenberg is weakened, he makes a magnetic field that manipulates all the metal around him lifting Ethan off the ground making threats that he will see Rose in the afterlife but not before Ethan shoots Heisenberg one last time which kills him for good.
- You could say he is an extremist because he wants to kill Miranda and be free from her influence, but it was mostly just a self-serving goal rather than protecting the world from her which means that he isn’t.
- While he has some comedic moments, they don't distract him from his heinousness, as he's overall taken seriously most of the time.
- In the end Heisenberg is a selfish hypocrite, He claims that he hates Miranda for using him and turning the village into a hellhole, and using Rose as a vessel for her own plans but he does the same thing with making the Soldats and wanting to use Rose as a weapon to kill Miranda which is the same thing Miranda does.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- While nothing really excuses his actions post-cadou he is still portrayed sympatheticly in a tragic light, he had a traumatic childhood as he was one of the children kidnapped by Mother Miranda, who then began experimenting on him by putting a cadou parasite in his body, then making him one of her servants when he is seen as a failure by Miranda, hence ruining his life for her own goals, so his villainy towards Miranda is understandable and justified while everything else isn't.
- He fails the heinous standards, mostly to Miranda who did worse and because he served under her for decades, but that's not all, similar to Miranda's overall goal to revive her daughter, which would cause less damage and destruction to the world than villains like Wesker, Gionne or Spencer who were willing to do so much worse, what Karl has done on his own accord was turn thousands of people into Soldats and intend to use baby Rose as a weapon, which is heinous and unique enough to stand out, but his overall goal of killing Miranda and being a free man isn't enough as it would cause less destruction to the world, and Miranda for the most part had it coming and it's left ambiguous what Heisenberg would have done once he has achieved it, so the goal isn't all that heinous to pass.
- Unlike the other members of Miranda's "family", including Miranda herself, he genuinely respects Ethan, as he made the death run with a little place for him to escape to survive and was genuine in his offer to work together to kill Miranda, even giving him a chance to reconsider before dropping him down a shaft. While he does stop trying to be affable with him after he refused, he still claims that he's impressed by Ethan post-mutation.
Trivia[]
- Karl Heisenberg, along with Miranda are the two Near Pure Evil's who appear in Resident Evil Village.
- Ironically his voice actor Neil Newbon considers Karl Heisenberg to be an anti-hero while still being a villain at the same time because Karl has a good intention who genuinely wants out and to be free.
