I'M NO PUPPET OF CURSA'S! I'VE GOT MY OWN PLANS FOR THOSE SPARKS, AND CURSA ISN'T A PART OF IT!
~ Kanya
How about a hundred? A THOUSAND? How about the ENTIRE MELODIC GARDENS turned into a single, GIANT Mecha King Bob-omb! BY THE TIME I'M DONE WITH THIS PLANET, THE ONLY "SYMPHONY" YOU'LL HEAR WILL BE ONE OF CHAINSAWS AND FACTORY FORGES! After that, the Galaxy will be mine! No wardens, no Cursa - just ME. The last Spark Hunter to TRULY think for themselves.
~ Kanya revealing her plans for galactic domination

Kanya is the titular main antagonist of The Last Spark Hunter DLC side story in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. She was created by Cursa to take Edge's place as the commander of the Spark Hunters and was granted free will to make her a capable one. However, Kanya hated being an underling to a higher up, so she left to Melodic Gardens to begin her own plans of galactic domination and to usurp Cursa.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • While Kanya is a being created by Cursa, she was given free will and was supposed to assume the role of the Spark Hunter leader after Edge went rogue which, right off the bat, gives her a clear moral agency.
    • Even if she is shown to be extremely crazy at times, it is clear that she does not suffer any problems regarding her moral agency and she does have enough understanding of right and wrong and is shown to be very intelligent with how she plans her atrocities, despite her unhinged nature, so everything she does is out of her own choice.
  • Even though, Kanya has indeed betrayed Cursa and turned away from the Spark Hunters and wanted to defeat her creator, it was only because she has a deep hatred of being an underling to it and she wanted to usurp its position of power and become the galaxy's tyrannical dictator, which makes all of her motives for leaving Cursa entirely pragmatic and self-serving.
  • While the Memory Log notes that she has an inferiority complex, it also states that it made her even more cruel and merciless than her former subordinates, the Spark Hunters, and she is never seen having any vulnerable moments or longing to be loved and accepted by others, traits that insecurity is often associated with, so it is not once played for sympathy.
  • Her original relationship with the Spark Hunters was never made clear as in the main game, neither Midnite, Bedrock or Daphne have ever brought up Kanya at any point and in the DLC, Kanya likewise doesn't mention them either, and the way she ends up callously leaving them behind and abdicated her role shows that she does not want to establish any meaningful relationship with them, and instead wants to fulfil her own ambitions. Edge herself is appropriately surprised when she first learns of her, since Kanya came to be after she left and logically has no prior knowledge about her up until The Last Spark Hunter DLC.
  • She has invaded Melodic Gardens and began to cause much misery to the inhabitants there and caused the Dorrie, the creature who used its power give the planet its musical nature, to flee into hiding which caused the planet to fall into silence, and as Allegra and her subjects have noted, Melodic Gardens relies on the biophonies from nature and its Rabbid orchestra for it to survive, meaning that if it stays quiet for too long, it will fade to nothingness.
    • When Allegra brings up the missing Dorrie who has been her best friend since their first meeting, she derisively tells her that she is too late and she 'should have said something about it earlier', making her run to its location only to discover that Kanya trapped it inside the cage, and it shows the heroes sympathizing in sadness with Allegra and the Dorrie.
  • She has a portion of her army torment the award-winning musicians by trapping them in cages within the Darkmess Puddles and the same thing was done to the tadpole like Melospheres, who elicit layered frequencies while close to the Sweeping Tree.
  • She builds herself an HQ in the northeastern island of the Flooded Ruins, along with the fact that she not only terrorized the clearly sentient Sparks that took refuge on the planet, but she used one of the Sparks named Cryodash, as a living battery against its will to power her machines there.
  • She floods the labyrinth to which it is now called the Flooded Ruins, with no regard to any life there and to prevent anyone besides herself from accessing her HQ which requires the Heroes to travel by boat to get around.
    • Even though Kanya denies that she is a Spark Hunter, she literally states that she has different plans for the Sparks and the above action only contradicts her claim, and she later admits that she is the last Spark Hunter during the climax, essentially voiding her claims.
  • Due to her activity that rendered Melodic Gardens to its silent state, it caused the air density in it to be altered so drastically it would prevent any spacecraft or anyone else from being able to leave the planet freely which was confirmed by JEANIE upon arrival and the threat of it fading to nothingness in the long run, giving off dark implications on what could happen to the inhabitants and those who arrived.
  • While she did seem impressed after they defeated the first proto robot, nothing suggests that Kanya does this out of actual respect and admiration, and it is proven that she has secretly used the heroes to defeat the Proto Mecha King Bob-omb that she was actually using for field testing so she can learn to create a more durable weapon that she can learn to perfect her ultimate weapon, the Mecha King Bob-omb, one that is immune to all damage and it is clear that she only sees them as unwitting disposable pawns when she tries to kill them.
  • She takes in much glee as she intends on industrializing the entire planet of Melodic Gardens with no respect to its natural environment and states that once she is done with the planet, its only symphony will be of factory forges and chainsaws. She adds that her regime would not have Cursa, but it was clear that she intends to have the wardens dead as well.
  • While the heroes do not show any sympathy for her when she is defeated, but with her cruel persona and the several heinous crimes she committed, it was clear that her fate of being blown out of the planet for good was well deserved and played for satisfaction.
  • While the Rabbids carried numerous comedic aspects about them in their own series as well as in the crossover series, Kanya is one of the few Rabbids who is actually taken seriously, and even when she has a few funny moments herself such as exploding in anger at minor provocations and when she suddenly starts yelling, it does not detract from her villainy, and every character who meets her still sees her as a serious threat and her petty outbursts and hammy moments are meant to make it clear just how psychotic she is.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Some of Kanya's crimes suffer a bit of some Fridge Horror since the work does not give off any clear indications that the Sparks were in visible pain nor was it confirmed that being used as a power source would be fatal to the Sparks and even if Cryodash was one such case, it is unknown how many more of them have been subjected to this treatment when Kanya was creating the robotic King Bob-omb weapons. However, given that the Sparks and Rabbid inhabitants of Melodic Gardens are genuinely afraid of her and her army with her raising the stakes with the aforementioned crimes above, this is a minor prevention.

Trivia[]

  • Kanya is the first and only Near Pure Evil villain to be an actual Rabbid, the species known for their extremely comedic natures.
