~ Kano to Sonya Blade. |
Kano is one of the secondary antagonists of the Mortal Kombat franchise.
A treacherous, arrogant, cowardly and crude mercenary, Kano acts as the second-in-command of the Black Dragon clan. He is more often than not, an opportunistic and greedy criminal with a twisted sense of humor and a penchant for brutality. He is usually at odds with the Special Forces, making him the arch-nemesis of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, the latter of whom he possesses a sick infatuation to.
In both Mortal Kombat (2011) and Mortal Kombat X, he was voiced by Michael McConnohie. He is later voiced by JB Blanc in Mortal Kombat 11.

His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- He is the ruthless second-in-command of the Black Dragon, an organization of mercenaries, because of that Kano is likely responsible for many deaths.
- In the alternate timeline, unlike the rest of the villains, Kano has significantly less resources than most of them, even if he has an entire underground criminal organization under him, but considering a lot of the evil villains are powerful sorcerers or gods, he nonetheless manages to stand out compared to them.
Original Timeline[]
- Under the pretense of being a person sent to reform the Black Dragon members, Kano infiltrated the U.S. Special Forces security facility and freed his fellow Black Dragon cohorts No Face, Tasia, Jarek and Tremor.
- Destroyed and presumably killed an entire squad at the site of the prison break.
- It is mentioned that Kano had killed Sonya Blade's partner some time in the past, which would explain the personal grudge she holds against him.
- Only entered Shang Tsung’s tournament because he heard that there were rumors that his palace was filled with riches, which he very much so planned to take.
- Though he teamed up with Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade to fight Goro, given his opportunistic and self-serving nature, it is most likely that it was out of pragmatism.
- Some times after the first tournament, Kano assisted Shao Kahn in his invasion of Earthrealm as a weapons instructor for his armies.
- Turned on Sheeva and took her to the Emperor, which got him promoted to general of his armies.
- As soon as Shao Kahn was killed by the deadly alliance, Kano in a cowardly move, pledged his loyalty to Shang Tsung and Quan Chi as new rulers of Outworld.
- Oversaw the enslavement of a small Outworld village, which would be used to construct a temple over Onaga's Tomb to house the Soulnado.
- Participates in the bloody battle of Armageddon, killing Stryker and stabbing Bo' Rai Cho.
Alternate Timeline[]
- Pretended to be an informant of the Black Dragon and assisted the Special Forces, when in reality he was in fact, their leader, subsequently leading many agents into a deadly trap and having them killed.
- Joined and assisted Shang Tsung in the tournament, presumably for his own selfish ends.
- Approached Johnny Cage from behind and attempted to kill him by throwing him off the bridge of the pit.
- Tried to kill Sonya Blade, taking advantage of her already weakened state from her fight with Johnny Cage.
- Sells a bunch of Black Dragon weapons to Shang Tsung, just so he can make a profit, not caring that he is essentially helping the invading force, despite Earthrealm being Kano's home.
- when Kano's deal with Shang Tsung is interrupted by Smoke, he tries to kill him.
- When he finds an injured Kabal, one of his former minions, Kano attempts to convince him to rejoin the Black Dragon.
- Though he helped patch up Kabal and even gave him his former equipment back, this was only to further coax him into rejoining the Black Dragon, quickly dropping his affability when Kabal refuses and fights him.
- When Kabal overpowers and defeats him, he cowardly helps Kabal escape just so that he doesn’t kill him, further proving that he has no loyalty for anyone.
- Tortures some Prisoners of War who are to be used as sacrifices for Quan Chi’s soulnado while Kano doesn’t know that he flat out admits he doesn’t care and only cares about getting paid.
- Steals one of the Kamidogu daggers, and once he is discovered by Sub-Zero, he scars him with his eye beam, as well as stabbing him in the back of his shoulder.
- Kidnaps Cassie and Jacqui under Erron’s orders just to get paid some more.
- Kills one of the Red Dragon soldiers with his eye beam and stabs Mavado with one of his knives, mocking Mavado's fallen comrade, Hsu Hao while winding him with a kick to the stomach.
- When his bionic eye is damaged, he quickly deems that they are outnumbered and escapes, leaving both of the girls to the Red Dragon just to save his own skin.
- Detonates a device that causes a massive nuclear scale blast that wipes out over half of Kintaro's army.
- Before the events of Mortal Kombat X, Kano steals Shinnok's amulet and leaves a duplicate in its place, along with a trap for anyone who discovers it.
- Sells Shinnok’s amulet, an extremely dangerous weapon, to Mileena, solely to get paid some more.
- Tricks Kotal Kahn into being a weapons dealer, then later reveals that he was already being paid double by Mileena, and attempts to kill him.
- He killed an Outworld refugee in the refugee camp, as evident by his signature killing method from the slain corpse.
- When discovered in the refugee camp, Kano threatens Sonya’s daughter.
- Teams up with Kronika as she promised him that the Black Dragon would be paid a high sum, as well as being the most successful Black Market in her New Era.
- He, alongside a repaired Sektor and the Cyber Lin Kuei invade the Special Forces Desert Command.
- Shoots and wounds Johnny Cage, capturing both past versions of Cage and Sonya Blade,, where they are taken to Russia.
- Betrays Sektor by activating a remote detonator to blow him up, just so he can get away safely.
- Lies to the past version of Kabal about Sonya burning and disfiguring him, just so he can watch a good fight.
- Afterwards, he cruelly forces Sonya and Johnny to fight, planning to kill them anyway regardless of who won.
- When being rescued by Cassie Cage, Kano chases and shoots at Sonya, Johnny and Cassie with a Minigun to kill all three of them.
- Takes Johnny Cage hostage at knifepoint and threatens to kill him, sadistically taunting Sonya Blade that killing him would also erase Cassie from existence.
- His death via having his past self be shot and being erased from existence is completely deserved and karmic, as he was a vehemently cruel and evil person, not deserving of any ounce of sympathy.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
Original Timeline[]
- He lacks a lot of crimes that pushed up his alternate timeline version meaning he fails the standard of the series.
Alternate Timeline[]
- He seems to have some level of friendship with Kabal. Even though it is very toxic and manipulative, he seems to genuinely value Kabal as a friend and saves his life after he is burned by Kintaro even though Kabal had already quit the Black Dragon.
