Kaidou is a major antagonist of the One Piece franchise, specifically serving as the overarching antagonist of the Dressrosa Saga and the main antagonist of the Wano Country Saga.
He was one of the Four Emperors of the Sea and an extremely powerful pirate with one of the highest bounties in the world. He was a tyrant that ruled Wano for over twenty years and had oppressed the people of the country. He is the governor-general of the Beasts Pirates. He was defeated by Luffy who eventually usurped his position as an Emperor.
In the anime, he is voiced by Tessho Genda, and in the Dubbed version, he is voiced by David Sobolov, who also voiced Shockwave in Transformers Prime.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
In General/Background[]
- Participated in many wars against Vodka Kingdom's neighbors at a very young age
- He would join the Rocks Pirates, in which he was in service for 6 years, a pirate crew that was known to be very violent, vicious, and kill even each other.
- At some point during his youth, he suggested to his captain to beat king Harald of Elbaph into submission, a suggestion that disgusted him.
- During the God Valley Incident, he ambushed Big Mom to steal the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu to finally acquire Devil Fruit abilities of his own.
- After being offered by Kurozumi Higurashi an oppportunity to manufacture weapons in Wano, Kaidou allied with Kurozumi Orochi to support him in his agenda of oppressing the people of Wano. He would force the civilians to work in factories to help build up the said weapons.
- Kaidou also planned to enslave 100 people of Wano every week to build his armada if Oden didn't submit to Orochi's conditions, which was greatly humiliating himself by dancing naked in the Flower Capital once a week in exchange of hostages being spared and them leaving Wano in five years
- Since it is nearly 260 weeks in 5 years, it means that Oden had to do that 260 times.
- Even when Oden fulfilled his part of the deal, which lead to him losing his entire reputation and dignity and becoming a complete joke and a laughing stock to everyone, Kaido and Orochi never intended to fulfill their end of the bargain at the beginning, admitting it mockingly.
- Kaidou also planned to enslave 100 people of Wano every week to build his armada if Oden didn't submit to Orochi's conditions, which was greatly humiliating himself by dancing naked in the Flower Capital once a week in exchange of hostages being spared and them leaving Wano in five years
- Kaidou fought against Kozuki Oden and the Nine Red Scabbards to maintain his oppression over the country. In the climax of the battle, he only won through an unfair advantage (which was he was neither planned or was aware of until he knocked Oden unconscious from that unfair advantage).
- After Oden and his retainers were sentenced to execution in a boiling pot and Oden offering him a deal to allow those who survive in the boiling pot go free in an hour, which they all successfully survived, but, along with Orochi, not only decided not fulfill another their end of the bargain with Oden, but decides to have them executed regardless by a firing squad. In the end, while the retainers (who were greatly devastated at being forced to let their lord die) escaped because of Oden's sacrifice, Kaidou was the one who personally finished him off by shooting him in the forehead, which left all the onlookers (after Shinobu revealed the truth behind Oden's weekly naked dances in 5 years) heavily devastated.
- After Oden's death, Kaidou would then also order his men to kill Kozuki Toki, despite her posing no real threats to him, which lead to the entire Oden Castle burning to the ground and left both Momonosuke (who lost 20 years of his life when his body was aged from 8 to 28) and Hiyori orphaned.
- Momonosuke was particularly traumatized when Kaidou held him by the hand with the threat of throwing him off the castle when the former was held several stories above the ground, leading to him developing acrophobia.
- Kaidou heavily abused his child, Yamato, by locking him in seclusion and not feeding him due to his defiance and admiration for Kozuki Oden. Kaidou also placed explosive collars on Yamato to force him to remain in Wano and to have control over him.
- Kaidou executed the Daimyos of Wano after they rebelled against him by burning them alive.
- He is shown to have grown an infamous reputation among the pirates and was feared for his wrath.
- Kaidou allied with Doflamingo and Caesar Clown to make SMILEs and weapons to fund his war on the world as part of the bargain.
- Despite having funny moments, such as making faces when he is drunk, he is taken completely seriously in-universe.
One Piece[]
- Kaidou killed two of his subordinates by smashing his Hassakai into their faces after having them hold Luffy's and Law's bounties.
- He crash-landed on Kid's, Hawkins', and Apoo Scratchman's base and forced them to join his crew with threats of violence. He beats Kid very badly and imprisoned him in Wano for defying him. Kaidou was also responsible for dispersing Kid's crew, leaving him on his own while he was captured and imprisoned.
- Kaidou threatened to kill Big Mom when she was planning to come to Wano and even threatened her life before coming to the country. After Queen escorted Big Mom, Kaidou still intends to kill her since she came to his territory.
- It was revealed that Kaidou set up many factories over the years and would use them to force people into slavery. In addition, his factories polluted most of the country and Kaidou purposely deprived the people of healthy food and water, leaving them all to starve.
- He launched an attack at a castle that held the Straw Hats and their allies, attempting to kill all of them in an explosion.
- Kaidou engaged in a major fight against Luffy over a populated city in his dragon form endangering the civilians and some of his crewmates in the town.
- Kaidou attacked Tama and Speed for no real reason.
- He ordered his men to send Luffy to Udon to try and break Luffy's will through torture so that Luffy will be an obedient follower. It's also revealed that he is attempting to do the same thing to Kid, who also opposed him.
- He gleefully watched the broadcast of Shimotsuki Yasuie's execution at Orochi and a few firing squad, even entertained of Orochi's psychopathy for causing the citizens of the Flower Capital being unable to express grief and only happiness and laughter for Yasuie's death due to the side effects of the SMILE fruits.
- Due to his powers and his support of Orochi's actions, he is also culpable in some of Orochi's crimes such as having the people of Wano eat defective SMILE fruits when they were hungry, causing them to smile permanently.
- During the Onigashima celebration and declaration of his plans, Kaidou beheads Orochi with King's sword, declaring Orochi is no longer any use to him and stated that he has been Kaidou's pawn all along.
- Kaido declares that he plans to collect the ancient weapons, the One Piece, and go to war against the World Government to destroy them and then conquer the world. He also reveals his intentions to turn Wano into a lawless pirate paradise where pirates would have free reign to terrorize and enslave civilians at their own will.
- Kaidou ordered his crew to capture Nico Robin when needing her knowledge of the Road Poneglyphs.
- After Yamato defies him for the last time, Kaidou disowns him and tries to kill him for being an annoyance.
- With his powers, Kaidou lifts Onigashima into the air and attempts to send it to the Flower Capital (which would’ve destroyed it). He intended to make Onigashima the new capital of Wano and showed apathy to the idea of dropping the island on the capital that had thousands of people below which would have killed them.
- After defeating Luffy the second time, Kaidou declares that when he wins the war, he will have all the civilians be enslaved under his rule.
- After defeating Luffy for the third time, Kaidou declared that he would murder all of the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance, only being stopped due to Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika's awakening.
- Even though they were on relatively good terms, he still betrayed Big Mom on God Valley by bashing her with club to acquire the devil fruit she had stolen from Ivankov.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Kaidou is shown to have genuine respect and honor for his enemies who can fight him in fairness and sees anyone who using underhanded tactics or cheating to make him win a battle as morally wrong when he hates interference. The punishment for those daring to interfere his fights, will be killed by Kaidou himself by smashing them with his mace.
- He expresses disgust when Kurozumi Higurashi deceived Kozuki Oden during his battle against Kaidou by impersonating Kozuki Momonosuke and punished the "old hag" by killing her as well he apologized to Oden that they didn't have a great battle due to Higurashi's interference. Despite of him hating Oden and considered him as an "idiot lord", Kaidou does respect him as one of the six legendary pirates who are capable of truly challenging him.
- During his battle against Luffy, Kaidou killed the CP0 agent, Guernica, by smashing him with his mace, for pushing Luffy towards his attack seeing the Guernica's move as dishonorable similar to his battle against Oden 20 years ago.
- When Luffy (now awakened) returned to face him, Kaidou was genuinely overjoyed to see Luffy alive and hearty, telling him he would never have accepted winning like that when he apologies to Luffy for Guernica's interference and called the CP0 agent as an "idiot".
- He respects Luffy's newly awakening powers when he called it ridiculous but also figured out it is a Zoan type fruit. He is glad to hear Luffy is still a big mouth when he explained the true nature of "Awakening". During his defeat, Kaidou acknowledged Luffy as "Joy Boy".
- He is shown to be on good terms with higher-ranking pirates within his pirate crew. He allowed Jack to rest up from his battle against the Scabbards and congratulates him on his efforts against the enemy who was stronger. He also rescued Alber from being experimented on by the World Government and offered him to join his crew as well giving him the name as King. Flashbacks also show that he had heart-to-heart conversation with King and was respectful to him.
- Despite their rivalry, Kaidou is shown to genuinely care for Big Mom, as seen when he learns about Big Mom's defeat, and Kaidou sadly reminisces about a positive moment with Big Mom. He tears up when thinking about her stating that he knew her for a long time and cannot believe she was defeated by Eustass Kid and Trafalgar Law, while also commenting on their shared goal of getting the One Piece.
- He was genuinely loyal to his captain, Rocks D. Xebec, and fought beside him in his newly-acquired dragon form against Imu on God Valley.
