Don't make me laugh. I feed on dumbshits like you. There's not a snowball's chance in Hell that a bright future lies ahead for you!
~ Shadow Kaneshiro

Junya Kaneshiro is a major antagonist of the 2016 ATLUS action-adventure video game, Persona 5 (as well as its 2019 expansion re-release, Persona 5 Royal), serving as the main antagonist of the the third heist, Bank of Gluttony. He is a mafia boss who rules over the underworld of Shibuya, who blackmails students of Shujin High into smuggling drugs. Because of his sheer greediness, he spawned a Palace in the Metaverse, which is the Bank of Gluttony.

He was voiced in Japanese by the late Kazunari Tanaka in the original game, and by Takahiro Fujimoto in the anime adaptation. In English, he was voiced by Jalen K. Cassell.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Blackmailed students of Shujin High into trafficking drugs.
  • Regularly threatens to kill his own henchmen if they don’t fill their quota. He’ll even spend money just for the sake of it, so he can threaten his henchmen to fill it in or they die, showing he takes enjoyment in this.
  • In his palace, we see several broken ATMs, and since his distortion shows him seeing people as walking ATMs, this implies that he’s killed dozens of people in the past who couldn’t fill their quota.
  • Attempted to rape Makoto Niijima.
  • Threatens to turn Makoto and her sister Sae into sex slaves.
  • While he has comedic lines, notably his shadow who often talks and dances like an awkward white rapper, he is still taken seriously in-universe and it only emphasizes his arrogant and sadistic personality.
  • While he is insecure due to growing up poor and said he went through a lot before he finally became who he is today, as well as being implied to be ashamed of his weight, this isn't portrayed with sympathy or justifying of his actions.
  • Using money he gained from scamming the students of Shujin High into drug trafficking, he funded Masayoshi Shido's campaign.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Most of his crimes as a crime lord are off-screen, arguably causing him to fail the Heinous Standards to Suguru Kamoshida whose abuse has clear onscreen effects.
