I'm Dr. Josef Heiter, retired, but still very well known as the leading surgeon in separating Siamese twins. Six months ago, I designed a never seen operation on not separating anymore but creating. I transformed my three rottweilers into a beautiful 3-hund construction.
~ Dr. Heiter to his captives.

Dr. Josef Heiter is the main antagonist of the 2009 horror film The Human Centipede (First Sequence). He is a deranged and perverted ex-surgeon who longs to create a horrific abomination known as a “human centipede”.

He was portrayed by the late Dieter Laser.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Pure Evil?[]

  • Although he used to be a recognized surgeon in Conjoined twins, in benefeit of society, he developed a desire to create them.
  • Before the events of the film, he once made Rottweilers into a "3Dog". They thankfully passed away so their pain could finally end.. To rub salt to the wounds, when one of the dogs try to escape, he punish them putting him in the middle part, giving the double pain of post-surgery effects (Reflected in Lindsay after she tried to escape).
  • He kidnapped Katsuro, Lindsay and Jenny, proceeding to turn them into a "human centipede" by surgically jointing them from anus to mouth.
  • He attempted to drug detectives Kranz and Voller to unite them with his Centipede.
  • He assassinated Kranz and Voller when cornered.
  • He forced Katsuro to defecate in Lindsay who was forced to swallow it, something he took a depraved satisfaction in.
  • While Martin Lomax and Bill Boss created longer human centipedes, neither of them existed in the same universe as Heiter, meaning he did not have to compete with them.
  • Although The Human Centipede was an exploitation film intentionally created to be disturbing, it was not complete shock value because there were genuinely heroic characters in the movie who posed a threat to Heiter's plans. When the movie ended, the police managed to kill Heiter and prevent him from getting more potential victims. Thus, Josef Heiter stood out enough to be Near Pure Evil.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He had a very twisted care for the dog centipede (3DOG or 3HUND) since at one point during his explanation of the process, he called it "beautiful." He also carried around a photo of it, and the movie opened with him looking at it, wiping it with a towel and sounding like he's tearing up. He also gave it a tombstone showing that its death affected him.

Trivia[]

  • Josef is the only The Human Centipede villain to be Near Pure Evil. And unlike Heiter, the villains of the second and third movies cannot be PE or NPEs for different reasons:
    • The second movie is debatably a pure shock value work as there are no heroes that can pose a threat to the villain Martin Lomax, therefore nobody in the second movie can stand out to be PE, NPE, or IH. Even putting that aside, Lomax has too many mitigating factors to qualify as NPE and his crimes only happen in his imagination with nothing to indicate that he ever commited the crimes he planned to.
    • The third movie, however, is a black comedy parody of the first two films which is not meant to be taken seriously, preventing anyone to be PE or NPE.
