ā€œ Joker: Okay. Fascinating story so far, Andre. But let's hurry up and get to the Nazi-killing.
Andre: I thought... you'd like them?
Joker: WHAT?! I'm American. I f***ing HATE Nazis! I'm a homicidal maniac, not a traitorous bigot.
ā€ž
~ Joker shares his disdain for Nazis with Andre, and also his sole redeeming quality.
ā€œ I know it's soon but... think you'll ever love again? Maybe you won't kill your next family... ā€ž
~ Joker taunting Superman before his death, also his last words.

The Joker is the overarching antagonist of the Injustice franchise.

Wanting to plunge the world into chaos and torment Batman, Joker sought to corrupt Superman by orchestrating the death of his pregnant wife Lois Lane and the destruction of Metropolis. These actions successfully drove Superman insane but also drove him to murder Joker in retribution, leading to him becoming a delusional fascist enforcing peace through fear and brutality, becoming the tyrannical ruler of Earth, and killing any who opposed him. This ultimately causes the Justice League civil war that lasts 5 years and kills many superheroes, and millions of innocents in the crossfire. It also results in heroes and villains alike resenting the clown for everything he's done.

He's the second arch-nemesis of Superman, the arch-nemesis of Batman, and the rest of the Bat-family as a whole.

He was voiced by Richard Epcar, who also voiced him in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe and his main universe counterpart and Ansem, Seeker of Darkness in Kingdom Hearts.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He's committed some of the same crimes as his mainline counterpart, such as crippling Barbara Gordon and killing Jason Todd. While Barbara Gordon was able to walk again (thanks to Lex Luthor), that only happened in the near future. The same goes for Jason Todd, who was revived and became Red Hood.
  • After Batman leaves Gotham, the Joker goes on a killing rampage, killing several guards and prisoners to get out of Arkham.
  • Breaks another inmate named Andre Chavard out of jail to get the supposed power of the god he talked about, but he refuses to say anything. He later threatens to kill his grandson after he is revealed to him, which causes Andre to cooperate and tell him everything.
  • Murders Jay Garrick and Sandman just to hurt Batman.
  • Murders Andre after he gets the Amulet of Apophis by ejecting him out of the submarine to get crushed by the deep ocean's pressure.
  • Attempts to blow up the Hall of Justice to kill the entire Justice League.
  • Supposedly kills Scarecrow while stealing his fear gas, combining it with Kryptonite to affect Superman. (It was later revealed that Scarecrow survived the attack).
  • Murders Jimmy Olsen, kidnaps Lois Lane, and implants a dead man's switch into her heart, before manipulating Superman into killing her and their unborn son.
  • Sets off a nuclear warhead in Metropolis which was linked to Lois' heartbeat, thus her death causes it to detonate and kill millions of innocent people, along with Starfire (although it was revealed that she survived), Kid Flash, and Beast Boy. This led to both Cyborg and Raven's fall to the dark side.
  • When the grief-stricken Superman confronts him, the Joker taunts the Man of Steel for his misery, thus successfully forcing him to kill the former in one last laugh. Not to mention that this is what turned Superman into the monster he is today.
  • While his death was brutal, it doesn't make him a scapegoat because he got what he deserved for everything he did (even though, that was what the Joker wanted Superman to do to prove that his plan worked).
  • He tricks Harley into thinking he cares about her so she could let her guard down.
  • Noticeably, his crimes are so heinous that practically everyone in the Injustice universe, hero or villain, despises him, even the series most heinous villain Brainiac, albeit for pragmatic reasons.
  • In the Injustice 2 non-canon Arcade Ending, he uses Brainiac's Collection to place random cities around the Earth, no matter if they came from the planet or not, leading people to kill each other.
  • His actions of corrupting Superman led him to corrupt some of the other Justice League members as well. What makes it even worse is that his actions of corrupting Superman also make him indirectly responsible for Green Arrow, Hawkman, Lex Luthor (who is Pure Good), and Shazam's deaths. This also makes him indirectly responsible for Robin's defecting to Superman's side due to his agreeing with his beliefs.
    • In turn, he's also at fault for Nightwing's death as Damian accidentally murders him in a fit of rage. Dick's death not only took a heavy toll on Bruce, but also resulted in Damian being harshly disowned by him.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Like his counterpart from Batman and Captain America comic book, he is shown to hold moral standards against bigotry, calling Nazis "traitorous bigots" and enjoying the thought of them being killed. While some could say he's being hypocritical or lying, none of his crimes imply bigotry, and he is visibly offended when Andre tells him he thought he'd enjoy Nazis, showing he still cares about the American way.

Trivia[]

  • For a while, he was once considered a Pure Evil villain, until he was eventually removed because it was deemed his hatred of the Nazis was genuinely out of standards against bigotry. However, his film incarnation remained Pure Evil due to not having this redeeming quality.
  • Despite being Near Pure Evil, this version of the Joker is often considered to be one of the most evil depictions of the character and also one of the most disliked, not because people hate him, but because he lacks most of his typical, more comical traits and some dislike the concept of him being the one who corrupted Superman. Nearly every villain in the Injustice universe despises the Joker and even blames him for Superman's descent into tyranny - from tricking the Man of Steel into killing his own wife and unborn child, nuking Metropolis to provoking Superman into ultimately killing him for his sick amusement. Even Brainiac, a Pure Evil villain, considers the Clown Prince of Crime a cancer that deserves to be neutralized if only because of his insanity. Harley Quinn, meanwhile, rejects him during the events of the game after realizing his utter depravity. On the other hand, Scarecrow only hates him for stealing Fear Toxin from him on top of trying to kill him. Therefore, he only thinks Joker went too far for selfish reasons. The same applies to the heroes with even Batman stating that while he did not approve of Superman murdering the Joker, he couldn't blame him and was more upset over what happened afterward and that Superman ended up proving Joker right by becoming a tyrant.
    • It’s taken even further in Mortal Kombat 11 where all the kombatants are not happy to see him and despise him as well, most of the villains do not take him seriously and the heroes are disgusted by his act in Metropolis (or for those who met him in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe) are angry that he’s even here in the realm in the first place, with Sheeva stating he has somehow done the impossible, he’s united all the realms just to end his tyranny and while Kronika is Pure Evil as well she didn’t go on a mass murder like he did in Metropolis, something even she is disgusted by.
  • This version of the Joker bears a similarity to Lex Luthor from the universe of "A Better World", an episode of DCAU's Justice League and another DC Near Pure Evil, as they both corrupted their respective versions of Superman by provoking them into killing them.
