John Doe is the villain protagonist of the non-canon Se7en comics. Unlike his version of the film, this version focuses more on the character of John Doe, as he carried out his murders and his past.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Torturing and brutally killing five people for his Seven Deadly Sins project.
    • Gluttony: He supercharges an obese man to death and, when he fails, kicks him in the stomach, bursting it.
    • Greed: forcing a lawyer to cut off a pound of meat, bleeding himself to death.
    • Sloth: tying a drug dealer to his bed, malnourishing him and injecting him with large amounts of drugs.
    • Lust: Forcing a man to rape a woman to death with a dildo made from a knife.
    • Pride: cutting off a model's nose and then giving her the choice between calling the authorities or committing suicide, choosing the latter.
  • Murdering and beheading a pregnant Tracy Mills out of jealousy of David Mills' normal life, and then place her decapitated head in a box for Mills and Somerset to see. This is low even for Doe, as Tracy was not a sinner in the least and Doe killed her out of envy. It is also implicit, judging by his phrase of "try to play husband", that he raped her first.
  • Corrupting Mills to kill him and become the Sin of Wrath, lose everything, and possibly be sentenced to prison for murdering a suspect, in the process completing Doe's job.
  • In general, he proves to be just as hypocritical as in his version of the film, best exemplified when he complains about Greed's victim for having defended murderers and rapists despite the fact that Doe is a serial killer and forces a man to commit a Rape by proxy, plus there are implications that he raped David's wife.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He has a genuinely tragic and comprehensive backstory. Born into a family of religious fanatics, his mother was a drunk who constantly mistreated and beat him, and she and his father called him a sinner and he was going to go to hell, despite having done nothing wrong. His love relationships failed thanks to his mother, and in his adulthood his wife cheated on him with another man and left him, so he could not have children, and he was fired from his job, being left alone and without anyone with whom he could have company, since his father disappeared and his mother died burned. By the time he discovered the Seven Deadly Sins, Doe's morality was so distorted that he began to become delusional.

Trivia[]

  • John Doe is only Near Pure Evil in the comics, while the film version qualifies as Pure Evil since the tragic past of the comics version is omitted.
