Jimmy is the main protagonist of the 2024 Swedish psychological horror game Mouthwashing.

He is the co-pilot of the Tulpar freighter, next in line to the captain, Curly. Shortly after the freighter's company, Pony Express, shut down, the spaceship would then crash into an asteroid, presumably caused by Curly with intention. However, it was eventually revealed that, over feelings of jealousy towards the captain, general inadequacy, personal circumstances, and his inability to "take responsibility," Jimmy had orchestrated the crash instead and blamed Curly.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Despite initially appearing as a good friend and a noble person, he was revealed to be highly envious of Curly’s position, believing he was worthy of a higher position. When Curly revealed that Pony Express was shutting down, meaning that everyone but him would be let go, he lashed out at Curly and revealed his resentment towards him, claiming that he simply wanted to "leave the dirt behind" while framing himself as the hero.
  • He was all but said to have raped Anya, implied to have done so by drugging her with a drink, resulting in her pregnancy, mental spiral, and eventual suicide, something he expressed no guilt towards.
  • When confronted on what he did to Anya, coupled with his resentment towards Curly, he snapped and sabotaged the Tulpar, planning on crashing it to kill everybody aboard, including himself. This resulted in the crew becoming stranded and Curly becoming maimed, paralyzed, scarred, and in constant pain.
  • After becoming captain, Jimmy began to mistreat the crew. He did so by demeaning Anya for not helping enough and taking time to taunt and abuse Curly in his horrific state, shoving pills down his throat while mocking him and venting his frustrations.
  • When Anya locked herself in the medical bay to kill herself, he manipulated Daisuke into accessing the damaged vents to open the medical bay door, drugging Swansea to make him unconscious while preying on Daisuke’s naivety.
  • When the vents mangled Daisuke’s body and horrifically mutilated him, he attempted to “fix” the situation by pouring some sugary mouthwash onto him, burning Daisuke and resulting in him being in even more pain, prompting Swansea to put him out of his misery by killing him.
    • Following this, he hypocritically accused Swansea of killing Daisuke under the belief that he wanted the last cyro-pod for himself.
  • After Daisuke’s death, he attacked and tied up Swansea before killing him by shooting him in the head, still believing that he could “fix” everything despite Swansea telling him off seconds prior about his inability to take accountability.
  • After being alone with Curly, he begins to torture his best friend by ripping into his flesh, cutting off and eating his body parts, and eventually feeding Curly his own flesh multiple times, causing him to throw up repeatedly.
  • While Jimmy eventually felt regret about his actions, the whole premise of the game was based on the fact that he refused to accept any sort of accountability for what he's done; he still believed himself to be a hero who, in one last delusional act of grandeur, shoved Curly into a cryogenic pod before promptly killing himself to avoid any responsibility. This left Curly stuck in the pod for the next 20 years in his agonizing state on the one-off chance he would ever be found and rescued.
  • Despite being absolutely delusional and insane, he still retains his moral agency and demonstrates he had a clear understanding that what he's doing was wrong but mentally twisted the scenario into viewing himself as not being in the wrong as much as he actually was.
  • While Jimmy has genuine insecurities, they don't make him sympathetic. Not only are they never played for sympathy, but they further show how he is unwilling to take responsibility for his actions and his deluded need to be seen as a hero. They also generally boil down to how much he hates Curly and his jealousy.

What Prevents Him from Pure Evil?[]

  • Despite his mistreatment of him and putting him in his current state, Jimmy still deeply admired and cared about Curly in his own twisted way:
    • While he was envious of his position and later held leverage to abuse him in his horrible state, he was protective of Curly and found himself unable to kill him.
    • Although Jimmy cut off Curly's leg and force-fed him it, his reasoning was to keep him from starving to death.
    • When confronted with what he did during his hallucinations, he found himself deeply regretting what he did to Curly and asking for forgiveness, stating they could both be heroes.
    • In the end, while Jimmy still refused to take responsibility for any of his actions, he gave Curly the final cryo-pod to give him a chance at survival before committing suicide.
