James “Jimmy” Martinez, also known by his codename Mr. Scrooge, is the main antagonist of the 2022 Christmas action comedy film Violent Night.
He is a mercenary who hates Christmas for ruining his life. As a result, Martinez been placed on the naughty list by Santa Claus before he tries to steal 300 million dollars from a rich family that he plans to also kill.
He was portrayed by John Leguizamo.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- After a horrible incident on one Christmas, he became a murderer, thief and committed tax fraud.
- Killed his best friend at one point.
- Attacked a rich family with the intent to steal millions of dollars from them and kill all of them, including 2 children.
- Killed the gate keeper in cold blood after pretending his car broke down.
- Had his henchmen kill 14 people in the house, including 2 himself.
- Held the family hostage and had Jason’s fingers crushed in a nutcracker before trying to have his men crush Jason’s nuts.
- Sent his men after Trudy after she ran away.
- Was going to kill Santa after capturing him.
- Upon breaking into the vault and realizing the money wasn’t there, he threatens to randomly shoot the entire family before Bert points out that he could shoot the one person who knows where it is.
- Threatens to shoot Jason’s wife, leading to him confessing.
- Payed off the extraction team to work with him, leading to Morgan’s death.
- Even after finding the money, decided to kill off the remaining 6 members of the family before Santa saved the day.
- Tried to kill Santa one last time before his death during the fight, even after realizing that he’s the real deal and seeing all of his misdeeds thrown back in his face.
- While he is an homage to action villains like Hans Gruber and a twisted parody of Mr. Scrooge, he is still treated as a serious threat, with his actions and crimes being taken seriously in the film.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Has a genuine tragic past where after his dad lost his job and his family couldn’t afford a Christmas, he snuck next door to steal the decorations so his family could celebrate only to accidentally startle the grandfather and cause him to fall to his death, leading to him being labeled as a murderer.
