“ Seriously, people will look at the ashes of Westerburg and say, "Now there is a school that self-destructed, not because society didn't care, but because the school was society!" That's pretty deep, huh? „
~ JD's justification for attempting to commit mass murder.

Jason Dean, also known as J.D., is the main antagonist of the 1989 black comedy thriller film Heathers.

He is the boyfriend of the protagonist, Veronica, who at first appears to be a rebellious, quiet kid before turning out to be a deranged serial killer.

He was portrayed by Christian Slater, who also voiced Ushari in The Lion Guard.

His Evil Rankings[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He painfully killed Heather Chandler by poisoning her drink with drain cleaner before writing a fake suicide note to frame it as her having taken her own life.
  • He fooled Veronica into thinking they were simply going to knock out the jocks Ram and Kurt with tranquilizers to temporarily fake a double suicide. When they got to the prank, he shot them with real bullets, murdering them both in cold blood and leaving a note explaining they were gay lovers who killed themselves because the world wouldn't accept them.
  • He intended to launch a movement of fake suicides (and the real ones they inspired) to share a hollow message about society being warped, really only reveling in the clout.
  • When Veronica washed her hands of their relationship, JD tried to rape her.
    • He later faked her suicide note and broke into her house to kill her.
  • When he discovered Veronica had "hanged herself" (she had only faked it to escape being murdered), JD, while slightly miffed, still sarcastically confessed to her "corpse" that he had come to kill her anyway.
  • His final plan was to blow up Westerberg High, killing hundreds of children and leaving his final message to society, which he only thought was sort of deep.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • There are implications that he had a rough upbringing. His mom passed away in an explosion, which is implied to have been caused by his hard-hearted father. This adds a bit of tragedy to his character, despite the film overall never using it to excuse his heinous actions.
  • In the end, he honestly admitted defeat, having been shot by Veronica, and backed away from her to blow himself up, showing honor in his very final moments.

Trivia[]

  • Only the film version of JD counts as Near Pure Evil, as the musical adds more tragedy to his character and shows him to be genuinely in love with Veronica.
