Dear Boss, I keep on hearing the police have caught me but they wont fix me just yet. I have laughed when they look so clever and talk about being on the right track. That joke about Leather Apron gave me real fits. I am down on whores and I shant quit ripping them till I do get buckled. Grand work the last job was. I gave the Lady no time to squeal. How can they catch me now. I love my work and want to start again. You will soon hear of me with my funny little games. I saved some of the proper red stuff in a ginger beer bottle over the last job to write with but it went thick like glue and I cant use it. Red ink is fit enough I hope ha. ha. The next job I do I shall clip the ladys ear off and send to the police officers just for jolly wouldn't you. Keep this letter back till I do a bit more work, then give it out straight. My knife's so nice and sharp I want to get to work right away if I get a chance. Good Luck. Yours truly, Jack the Ripper. Don't mind me giving the trade name. PS Wasn't good enough to post this before I got all the red ink off my hands curse it No luck yet. They say I'm a doctor now. ha ha.
~ Jack's "Dear Boss" letter.
Jacob: Jack, we can fix you.

Jack: FIX ME? I am the solution.

~ Jacob trying to reason with Jack that he wants to help him but Jack ignores his pleas.
How many more must die before you see the truth? P.S. Your brother didn't listen so I gave him a double lesson, your Creed failed them as it failed my mother.
~ Jack's message to Evie Frye.

Jack the Ripper is the main antagonist of the Assassins Creed Syndicate: Jack the Ripper DLC.

Formerly known as Jack the lad, he was a student of Jacob Frye and was trained under the ways of the Assassins until later he became a serial killer with a twisted grudge against the Assassin brotherhood, including Jacob, due to discovering his mother died in the crossfire of their war against the Templars. He develops an extreme ideology that the Assassins should adopt ideas relating to fear and terror while believing that the current Creed of Assassins is outdated.

He spreads his terror all over London and killed several undercover Assassins as a way to make the order of Assassins afraid of him. He works effortless to create his new Creed and take over London while taking out all those who pose a threat to him and his plans. He is also Evie Frye's archenemy.

He was voiced by Alec Newman.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He used all the skills that Jacob taught him for his brutal methods in fighting including the fear tactics that he was taught during his time in India.
  • He plans to create his own Creed based on terror while trying to destroy the current assassin order due to seeing it as old and weak.
  • Like his real-life counterpart, he killed several prostitutes (who were undercover Assassins) in the Whitechapel district of London and use them to terrify the citizens and Assassins. He also left messages for Jacob and Evie to read which is filled with Jack mocking them and their competence.
  • He hunted Jacob down and tried to make him suffer as much he has since he blames him for how he turned out. Jack stabs him in the eye, torture him, and placed him underneath Lambeth Asylum alone with no food or light as a way to show him what he experienced in his life.
  • After dealing with Jacob, Jack took over Jacob's gang, the Rooks, and corrupted them with his extremism.
  • Jack used the prison hulks in Deptford to torture and starve the prisoners he kept and had them create letters to their families and the public. He uses the letters to blackmail the families to follow his every demand.
    • He left John Billingsworth as the warden of the prison, who is a sadistic man that loves to torment the prisoners while carrying out their execution.
  • He threatens Arthur Weaversbrook to publish his letters to the public or else he kidnaps his son.
  • He had Olwyn Owers to be his eyes and ears in London and manipulate anyone for Jack's benefit. She also use the Ripper rumors to manipulate her prostitutes with the suggestion if they don't listen to her, Jack will go after them.
  • Throughout the game, Jack stalks and torment Evie for getting in his way and tries his best to make her suffer.
  • He got rid of the many evidence that are connected to his abilities and identity with the hope of people not knowing his true identity and past.
  • He freed all the lunatics in Lambeth Asylum and killed all the workers inside.
  • In the end, Jack shows no remorse of his actions.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • The biggest reason Jack the Ripper can't be Pure Evil is because he is too insane due to the fact that he genuinely views his actions and beliefs as the only way that the Assassins can move forward. He feels the Creed is outdated and by adopting ideas relating to terror and fear they be unstoppable. The game also shows many examples of his insanity mainly by scruffy messages when playing as him and his enemies sounding demonic, which all of this shows his perspective on reality. With this information in mind, Jack really is mentally unstable with his sense of reality being severed and this impairs his moral agency to a limited degree.
  • Despite everything he has done, Jack is a tragic villain. When he was a child, he struggled with mental-illness and witnessed the death of his mother at the hands of Templars, which traumatized him. He was taken to Lambeth Asylum to have his illness treated but it worsened due to being heavily abused by the asylums staff. Jack was then taken in by Jacob to be raised as an Assassin but after discovering that the Assassins were at war with the Templars led Jack to believe that the Assassins, including Jacob, allowed an innocent bystander like his mother to die in the crossfire.

Trivia[]

  • Jack the Ripper is the only Assassin's Creed NPE villain to surpass the Heinous Standards of the franchise, as all the others fail them. He is also the only one to have some mitigating factors.
  • The knife that Jack wields in the game is a unique brand of knives known as Afghan Choora dagger.
  • The burlap sack that Jack wears is a reference to the huge mystery of his real-life counterpart and how nobody is able to know who he is and what he looks like. This is reinforced in the game where Jack's face is never revealed with the sack never being removed at all by anyone. His top hat, however, is a reference to the popular theory of Jack the Ripper actually being an aristocrat with a taste for murder. This also references the common image of Jack, where he is dressed in fancy clothing while at times presenting himself as a gentlemen to his victims.
  • There was once a popular fan theory growing in the Assassins Creed community that suggested Jacob Frye may be Jack the Ripper right after the release of the DLC trailer. Many believe that some of Jacob's dialogue in the main game may imply a darker tone to his character and might have develop a mental-illness during the events of the DLC. They also mention that Jack dresses similarly to Jacob. But this has been disproven by the game and the theory itself is nonsensical due to the extreme lack of evidence. Not only is Jacob never been hinted or describe of being mentally-ill, it is extremely out of character for Jacob to go from fun-loving rebel to serial killer for no reason.
