Illumi Zoldyck is the secondary antagonist of the manga/anime series Hunter x Hunter. He is the older brother and arch-enemy of Killua Zoldyck.
He is voiced by Mayasa Matsukaze in the original Japanese and Chris Hackney in the English dub for the 2011 anime.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- As an assassin of the Zoldyck family he has killed many people as part of his job.
- Alongside his father, Silva, he molded Killua to be a killing machine which would mean he helped make a child a killer plus the training involved being tortured to resist pain.
- To control his brother further he put a needle in his head which would force him to run a way if he couldn’t win a fight for sure. This action nearly made Killua leave his best friend due to the hold his brother had on him.
- To experiment with the power of his sister Alluka he used his own butlers as lab rats to test it out which resulted in the deaths of 67 innocent people.
- During the Hunter exam he kills participants Goz and Siper and claims their tags for himself.
- When he faces Killua in the Hunter exam he attempts to put him under his control by telling him he is not cut to be Hunter because he is a soulless being who only feels purpose when he kills because it is how Illumi raised him. When Killua explains he wants to leave the assassin life behind him and be friends with Gon, Illumi dismisses his feelings by stating that if he stays with Gon he will kill him one day.
- When he learn Gon already considers Killua his friend he attempts to kill Gon because “Assassins have no need for friends” he throws his needles at one of the examiners faces and forces him to tell him where Gon is.
- When he fights Killua he tells him if he doesn’t beat him, he will kill Gon knowing there is no way he can win, due to the influence of the needle Killua yields out of fear. Illumi than stated he was joking about killing Gon and that by failing to fight him for his friend he has proved he is nothing but a killer. This causes Killua to enter a state of despair and murders one of the other participants due to the emotional abuse by Illumi.
- Illumi considers trying to kill Gon again later only to be stopped by Hisoka.
- Illumi kills the ten dons when hired by Chrollo Lucilfer.
- Illumi attempted to kills his own sister due to her power and attempted this by mind controlling innocents to drive their car and crash into Killua’s
- He allows Hisoka to kill the servants with Killua which results in Gotoh’s death
- He uses needle men to take over the bodies of dozens of innocent civilians to force them to work for him until they die from overwork so that he can track Killua and his sister
- Him and Hisoka murder all the hunters sent after them during the election.
- Is willing to let Killua kill him so that the act may have him “live in his heart forever."
- When he learns the extent of Alluka’s power he attempts to claim it for himself so that he may possess both power and turn Killua into his puppet.
- He joins the Phantom Troupe in order to kill Hisoka.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He does care for his family as he was willing to let Alluka kill him if it ensured his family’s safety.
- Although he's constantly tormenting Killua, he also appears to be a bit protective of him, albeit in a very twisted way. When Hisoka jokingly asks for his permission to "do" Killua, Illumi immediately flips out and threatens to kill him right then and there, showing that despite everything, he still does not want his brother to die.
- He seemingly has a good relationship with Hisoka, with him being the closest thing the latter has to a friend. Although this is arguably a minor prevention at best as their partnership appears to be mostly situational and the legitmacy of their friendship is debatable. Additionally, Illumi appears in Hisoka's vision as one of his "toys", meaning that their relationship is likely a pragmatic move on both parts.
