| “ | You created me to be your instrument of destruction for some childish competition. In the end, I was defeated by some back-flipping canine. I spent weeks waiting for you to rescue me. Thankfully, a local scouting vessel showed up. They made repairs and improvements, granting me sentience. And more important... the ability to understand how much you had betrayed me. | „ |
| ~ Hypnobot explaining his backstory to Tails. |
Hypnobot is a major antagonist in the Sonic Boom TV series, serving as the secondary antagonist of the episode “Robot Battle Royale” and the main antagonist of the four-part episode “Robots From The Sky”.
He was a robot created by Tails for a robot fighting tournament in which Tails hoped to prove that he is a better inventor than Knuckles by winning the said tournament, only for the robot to get reprogrammed by Eggman into working for him and subsequently getting blown up and seemingly destroyed by a back-flipping robot puppy.
In “Robots From The Sky”, Hypnobot was revealed to have survived and that the explosion only sent him flying into outer space and didn’t destroy him. After being stuck in outer space for weeks and getting rescued by a scouting vessel from Morristown, he was repaired and given sentience, which caused him to develop a strong hatred towards Tails and a desire to wipe out all organic lifeforms due to feeling betrayed by the former.
He was voiced by Travis Willingham, who also voiced Paul De Pleur in Far Cry 4.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He helped Eggman take control of Tails' machines and sent them to kill Team Sonic, and while he cannot be blamed for these actions as they were done due to him being reprogrammed, he still has the memory of doing these actions after gaining a moral agency yet seemingly shows no remorse for them.
- He enslaved and brainwashed most of Morristown’s inhabitants and ended up changing the city from a utopia to a ghost town filled with broken robot parts
- It is implied that he killed multiple Roboken citizens during his attack on the city.
- He brainwashed all robots on Earth into attacking organic lifeforms and intended to rule the world as its supreme ruler after they were all wiped out.
- He is responsible for Mighton and Bolts’ ship crash landing on Earth, since the virus that infected the ship was the same one that he used to brainwash the robots on Earth and in Morristown.
- He sent his minions to kill Sonic and Tails.
- He attempted to kill Tails himself by dropping him from Morristown to Earth while laughing sadistically.
- After being saved by Eggman, he teamed up with him and brainwashed his robots again to conquer Morristown together.
- He brainwashed the robots of Morristown again (including Mighton) to up the ante.
- He sent his minions to kill Team Sonic and Team Cybonic one final time.
- He actually shows no care nor any gratitude towards the robots of Morristown for rescuing and repairing him, having no problem with enslaving and brainwashing them for his own personal gain.
- Although he had a Freudian Excuse of feeling betrayed by Tails and being left stuck in outer space for weeks, he goes way too far with his actions for his tragedy to hold up.
- Not to mention when Tails apologized for what he did, Hypnobot brushed his apology off and made his minions laugh at him.
- While he was originally a robot who had no personality and completely lacked moral agency, he would later gain both after being repaired and would willingly choose to become evil.
- While not as heinous as Dave the Intern or Shadow the Hedgehog, he has less resources than them, and stands out for his personal contempt against Tails as well as brainwashing countless robots for petty and selfish reasons.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He is affable towards Eggman, being grateful towards the doctor for saving him from a frozen lake and teaming up with him to conquer Morristown due to their shared hatred of Sonic and Tails, while also having no intention of betraying him.
Trivia[]
