~ Hydros announcing his plans for revenge on Zeus while massacring a horse herd. |
Hydros, also known as the Ice Titan and The Lurker, is one of the supporting antagonists in Disney's 35th full-length animated feature film Hercules, based on the legendary heroic figure Heracles.
He is one of the Titans who were imprisoned by Zeus in the distant past shortly after the universe's creation. Thus, Hydros and his brothers desire revenge on the Gods of Olympus, chance they get when Zeus' jealous brother Hades frees them.
He was voiced by Jim Ward.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Like the other Titans, Hydros was a destructive and dangerous monster who wreaked havoc and all kinds of misery on mankind, which most likely resulted in thousands of deaths until Zeus stepped in and trapped them under the sea for millennia.
- Agrees to help Hades conquer the world by first attacking Olympus to get back at Zeus and his fellow Olympians for his imprisonment.
- Engages his brothers in causing massive devastation on the apparent route to Olympus, freezing an entire herd of horses to death (giving him an onscreen kill count whereas the kills caused by his brothers are offscreen or heavily implied) while declaring his intentions to freeze Zeus too. Even when he finds out that the route was wrong, he shows no remorse for the unnecessary massacre he committed before heading in the correct direction.
- Attacks Mount Olympus and freezes Zeus while Pyros pukes up lava at him, forming a frozen magma prison that traps Zeus as Hades claims his throne.
- Tries to kill Hercules and Pegasus by trying to freeze them to no avail, even freezing Hades accidentally, which doesn't seem to concern him even though Hades freed him.
- Cowardly tries to run away when Zeus blows up Lythos' heads, essentially abandoning Hades despite his orders to come back and kill his enemies, proving they weren't really loyal to him and merely teamed up with him for enabling them a chance to get back at Zeus.
- Despite all the Titans being brothers and working together to conquer Olympus, it's unknown if Hydros feels some care for them and vice versa, but judging by how he and the others don't seem concerned for Lythos when he gets his heads blown up, they may not really care for each other.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Despite all the characters considering him and his brothers an alarming threat, just like the other Titans, Hydros has some comedic moments that detract from the seriousness of his crimes, like when he and his brothers take the wrong direction to Olympus until Hades notifies them even though Olympus was clearly visible, when he accidentally freezes Hades while trying to freeze Hercules and Pegasus or when he runs away cowardly upon Zeus getting more lightning bolts.
- He suffers insufficient characterization due to only having a few lines in the movie. However, his dialogue showed signs of desiring revenge on Zeus for trapping him, meaning he's capable of feeling hatred, making this a minor prevention.
