“ | Been so damn long since I got any action, I rose up too much in the ranks, and now no one'll go at it for real with me anymore. It's given me some real blue balls. Now I'm throbbing so hard it hurts. | „ |
~ Nishitani to Kiryu, before their first fight, highlighting his depraved personality. |
Homare Nishitani III is the secondary antagonist of the 2023 action-adventure game Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, a spin-off entry of the Like a Dragon series.
He is the third patriarch of the Kijin Clan and is the owner of The Castle, a secret criminal society located on a dock ship. After learning that the legendary Kazuma Kiryu was still alive despite his supposed death, he had tried to track him down and capture him, which resulted in his own death by the hands of Kosei Shishido. However, Shishido had staged Nishitani's death and secretly recruited him to assist in stopping a planned disbandment of the Tojo Clan and Omi Alliance.
He was voiced by Kim Jae-wook in Japanese, who also portrayed Mo Tae Gu from Voice. He was voiced Tyler Yamabe in English.
His Evil Ranking[]
What makes him close to pure evil[]
In General[]
- Unlike the original Homare Nishitani, he doesn't possess any redeeming or honorable qualities, and is far more sadistic and cruel than his predecessor.
- As the ruler of the Castle, he would enslave and abuse those who owned severe debts, often putting them in cages or forcing them to ride chariots carrying rich patrons. He would also orchestra Coliseum fights, several of which are extremely deadly and could cost the lives of the contestants.
- He's arguably the worst and brutal torturer in the entire franchise (even more so than the likes of Futoshi Shimano) as his torture methods includes denailing his victims, cutting their noses off, and making multiple cauterized cuts to their stomachs before burying them alive in the mountains, putting his victims in agonizing pain.
- He's heavily sadomasochistic, as he is weirdly aroused when he is fighting someone like Kiryu/Joryu.
Background[]
- He once served under the Jingweon Mafia, meaning he has committed several crimes during his time there.
- As the patriarch of the Kijin Clan, he and his clan did several dirty works for the Omi Alliance, such as murder and torture.
- He forced Kosei Shishido to serve as his gladiator for the Coliseum fights for over a decade, and has physically, mentally, and even sexually abused him.
- When a young Watase member wanted to leave the clan, it was clear that Tsuruno was going to let the deserter go. Nishitani III kidnapped and tortured him in an effort to impress Watase. While one could say that letting the deserter go unpunished would set a bad precedent for the yakuza, Nishitani III went way too far. He would bury the tortured deserter in the mountains, before he was thankfully killed out of mercy by Tsuruno.
Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name[]
- After gaining a peak interest in Joryu, he ordered all of his men to hunt him down in the Caslte. When they failed, he rides to the entrance to kill Joryu himself.
- After finding out that Joryu is Kiryu Kazuma, he ordered the Kijin Clan to hunt and kill him and his allies like Tsuruno and Shishido down in Sotenbori, Osaka.
- When Kiryu/Joryu and Shishido, aided the Watase Family, stormed the Kijin hideout, Nishitani tries to kill the two.
- After finding out Watase's plan to disband the Omi Allance by Shishido, he joined forces with Shishido in attempt to stop the disbandment plan.
- He tried to kill Kiryu/Joryu, Watase, and Tsuruno alongside Shishido and their loyalists. Although he nearly succeeded with Watase, he was taken out before he could kill him.
- Although he is forced to serve as an agent for the Daidoji Faction, alongside Shishido, this is not played for sympathy due to his heinous acts and is played as an ironic karmic fate for him.
- The fact that Nishitani III was betrayed and targeted by Watase and Tsuruno beforehand to ensure the disbandment of the Omi Alliance wasn’t played for sympathy either as he was the main obstacle to the disbandment. Even Tsuruno, a yakuza himself, explicitly stated that monsters like him shouldn’t exist.
What prevents him from being pure evil?[]
- He genuinely respected Watase and served him out of great loyalty, admitting that every extreme action he took was all so he didn't have to dirty his hands. When Watase wanted to disband the Omi Alliance and have Nishitani III removed, he was genuinely hurt by his idol's betrayal. Even Watase admitted that he’d feel the same way Nishitani III did were the roles reversed. Though this is a minor prevention as Nishitani III did try to kill Watase for betraying him and nearly succeeded.
