ā€œ Live for the present? Don't make me laugh! You have no idea what a tragedy this has been for those who weren't chosen! Which is why I have a test for you: can you still spout that same nonsense... after I've taken everything from you? ā€ž
~ Hiryu to Sougo after becoming Another Zi-O II

Hiryu Kakogawa is a secondary antagonist of Toei's 20th Heisei Kamen Rider season Kamen Rider Zi-O. He served as an arch-enemy of the protagonist Sougo Tokiwa/Kamen Rider Zi-O.

After his parents' death of a bus accident, he grieved and blamed Sougo for the tragedy, seeking revenge and wanted to defeat him. He then obtained the power of Another Zi-O, and later, Another Zi-O II.

He was portrayed by Yu Sakuma.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

TV Series[]

  • Despite his tragic backstory of his parents dying in a bus accident, he has developed a huge grudge against Sougo, whom he believed to be responsible for their deaths. In reality, Sougo did not involve a single bit in the accident, despite also being in the same bus.
  • He allied with the main antagonist Swartz to get his power of Another Zi-O, becoming a ruthless supervillain mirroring Sougo, his arch-enemy.
  • He resurrected multiple Another Riders to attack Sougo and Geiz.
  • Even after being sympathized by Sougo and got told to move on from his past, he did not just accept it, but also continued his grudge against Sougo.
  • He kept doing more and more villainous deeds after each defeat against Sougo.
  • By the time Sougo has reached his final form as Grand Zi-O, he also became a more powerful version of himself as Another Zi-O II, with a desire to erase Sougo's timeline of becoming Ohma Zi-O and also his loved ones.
  • He attempted to rule the world with an iron fist, unlike Sougo who was destined to be Ohma Zi-O and also tried his best to prevent this fate, he wanted to become a tyrant just for his selfish desire.
    • He used his power to mess up with timeline, hindering the heroes and had a large impacts on the innocents.
    • He enslaved and forced innocents to turn into Another Riders by implanting Anotherwatches at them so he could become more powerful to deafeat Sougo.

Final Stage[]

  • He fake allied with Sougo and Geiz in order to capture Woz and Tsukuyomi to collect all 7 Showa Rider Ridewatches.
  • He desired to end the world of Heisei Riders and to open his own world of Showa Riders.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He was genuinely tragic as he witnessed his parents' death of a bus accident, and his dedication to fight and defeat Sougo was solely from his revenge motive.
  • Despite being Faux Affably Evil, he still cared for his parents and this love was never subverted.
  • At the end, he honorably requested Sougo for the last duel, which he accepted his own defeat.
