The Headless Horseman is the secondary antagonist of the 1999 horror movie Sleepy Hollow, an adaptation of the late Washington Irving's 1820 gothic story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
He is the ghost of a merciless Hessian mercenary who was known for his love of carnage and chopping off heads. Following his death during the American Revolutionary War, the Hessian is brought back from the dead by Lady Van Tassel, who controls him to accomplish her own plans of revenge.
He was portrayed by Christopher Walken. His stunts were performed by the martial artist Ray Park.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He joined the war not out of love for his country or for money, but for the simple thrill of killing people.
- He slaughtered scores of people during his service simply to quinch his bloodlust.
- While he was not in control of his actions during his time as the Headless Horseman due to having been controlled by Lady Van Tassel, the same little girl who caused his death years ago, nothing indicates he actually regretted any of the murders he was made to perform by her.
- He stands out from Lady Van Tassel by having performed more kills as a human than as her undead slave.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He is somewhat honorable, as he decided to spare the protagonists after they returned his head to him. He also appears to have standards against hurting children, as he refused to hurt Mary Archer even when she gave away his place.
- He cared for his horse, Daredevil, that it could be seen when his horse was injured, he petted it.
