~ Hawk Moth manipulating Cat Noir to think that his actions are for the greater good. |
This version of Gabriel Agreste aka Hawk Moth is the overarching antagonist of the Miraculous Ladybug episode "Cat Blanc."
He is from a dystopian reality in which Marinette revealed her secret identity to Adrien. This act, despite reinforcing their relationship, leads to terrible consequences.
Just like his original counterpart, he is voiced by Antoine Tomé in French and Keith Silverstein in English, with the latter also dubbing Kurozumi Orochi in One Piece. Both also voiced Shadow Noir in the same series.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He has done everything the main Hawk Moth has done, being a terrorist on a weekly basis, being responsible for many heinous akumatized villains in the series such as Stormy Weather, abandoning and neglecting his own son Adrien and almost murdering superheroes who are clearly teenagers in order to get Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses (the latter of whom is actually Adrien).
- When his son starts dating Marinette, he blackmails her into breaking up with him, threatening to take Adrien out of school for his own good. This was in hopes that her complete and utter despair will bring about his masterpiece.
- Upon learning that his own son is Cat Noir, he is shocked at first, but immediately and happily thinks about manipulating him into giving him his Miraculous.
- After fighting with Ladybug and Cat Noir, he psychologically abuses Cat Noir by revealing that he is his father, and manipulates him to believe that he is doing good.
- When Cat Noir has a mental breakdown in front of him, he smiles and seizes his opportunity to akumatize him.
- Upon his akumatization, he tries to get Cat Blanc to kill Ladybug.
- The pressure he put on Cat Blanc was so extreme that his cataclysm blast expands, which destroys everything and everyone in France.
- It is unknown if he still cares about Nathalie, since his care for her is not mentioned. Even if it will persevere, it would be a minor prevention.
- He sheds a ton of the redeeming qualities that he had before, from his tragedy to his care for his son. The reason it's no longer tragic is because previously his tragedy was motivated for losing someone in his family (his wife) but the fact that he is willing to akumatize and mentally torture Adrien, his son, implies that he doesn't really care about his whole family. And considering the fact that Emilie didn't want Gabriel to resurrect her, implies that his actions are more motivated by selfishness instead of general care for his family.
- He is taken even more seriously than his main counterpart, who at least had his comedic moments even if they weren't detracting.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- While most of his redeeming qualities have been lost, his love for his wife, Émilie, hasn't, and at the end of the day, he's just trying to bring her back. However, his selfishness and the fact that he akumatized Adrien (his son) to achieve his invalid methods, his tragedy makes the care of his wife somewhat less.
Trivia[]
- Some fans speculate that Nathalie may have left this version of Hawk Moth given how Mayura doesn't help him when Ladybug and Cat Noir appear to fight him, unless the Peacock Miraculous damaged her enough to the point she could no longer assist him. If it were confirmed that Gabriel became too obsessed with his plans to hear Nathalie or left her damaged without remorse, it would make the Bad Future version of Hawk Moth even worse.
- He is one of two Miraculous Ladybug characters to be Near Pure Evil alongside Shadow Noir.
