Hank Shaw is a posthumous antagonist in the 2022 video game Horizon Forbidden West. He served as the Beta for GAIA's subordinate function HADES, with his superior and former friend, the Alpha HADES Travis Tate, during the events of the Faro Plague. Despite being a mentioned character, Shaw catalysed most of Ted Faro's past actions, including the Omega Clearance's creation and the destruction of the APOLLO Archive.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- While he served as the Beta of the HADES subordinate function, who worked with the Alpha HADES Travis Tate within Project Zero Dawn, Shaw was shown to be an unscrupulous traitor who acted as a mole on two separate occasions, both via Ted Faro and the Far Zenith, in an attempt to actively harm the project itself.
- When he worked as Ted Faro's mole, Shaw implanted a backdoor on GAIA, after getting coerced by Faro, which later took form of the Omega Clearance. This allowed Faro to gain complete access of the terraforming system in the shadows, which would ultimately lead to the deaths of the Zero Dawn Alphas, and most infamously the destruction of the APOLLO Archive, leading to humanity's descent into tribalism.
- Shaw later secretly acted as Far Zenith's mole (as Project Anzu's "asset"), where he betrayed Tate by trying to steal GAIA and its subordinate functions for the organisation's attempts of space colonisation efforts. However, his act of treachery was soon discovered by Tate, leading to him being noise-tortured by him.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- His characterization is limited, due to only having appeared in two datapoints throughout the game. However, since Shaw's act of creating the Omega Clearance has a direct, significant impact to the events of the series, as Ted Faro's action of purging APOLLO can be traced back to him, he passes the in-general standards.
