“ | Oh, no! Not— I—I—I can’t say it! This is a villain so evil, so sinister, so horribly vile that even the utterance of his name strikes fear into the hearts of men! The only safe way to refer to this king of darkness is simply… HIM. | „ |
~ The narrator in “Octi Evil” |
“ | Oh, I'm sorry, but nobody does evil THE WAY I DO! | „ |
~ HIM to Mojo Jojo |
HIM (sometimes spelled Him) is the secondary antagonist of The Powerpuff Girls. He is one of the girls most powerful adversaries, as well as one of their crueler opponents.
He was voiced by the retired Tom Kane, who also voiced his 2016 counterpart and The Ultimate Evil in The Fifth Element.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He has manipulated Bubbles, the most naïve and gullible of the girls, to move his plans along, such as using her favorite toy Octi to psychologically destroy the Powerpuff Girls by turning them against each other, and using her talent for drawing with chalk to make her express her anger before making her drawings come to life and attempt to destroy Pokey Oaks.
- In “Telephonies,” he, along with Mojo Jojo and Fuzzy Lumpkins, viciously beat up the Gangreen Gang after falling victim to their prank calls.
- While the Gang deserved punishment for tricking the girls into beating up the villains when they didn't do crimes, the way they handled it was to intense.
- In “Tough Love,” he brainwashes the entire population of Townsville in order to kill the Powerpuff Girls and forces them to fight all the people they love to defeat him.
- During the girls’ absence in “Speed Demon,” he turns Earth into a wasteland. In this alternate timeline, he:
- Killed all the other villains of Townsville, including Mojo Jojo, Fuzzy Lumpkins, Princess Morbucks, etc. (confirmed by the show's writers)
- Drove all of Townsville to violent insanity, especially Mrs. Bellum, Ms. Keane and Prof. Utonium.
- Possibly even killed the Mayor of Townsville as a newspaper shown that he died at the age of 83, and Mrs. Bellum was shown crying for the Mayor's death.
- Brainwashed all of Townsville into believing that the girls vanished on purpose.
- Traumatizes the Powerpuff Girls after they enter this alternate timeline, shaming them for being away for fifty years.
- By how he turns out to be in this future, most of his redeeming qualities are subverted, and he doesn’t have his somewhat comedic nature.
- He invaded the girls' dreams to psychologically torment them by turning their fears against them, which include:
- Putting Blossom in a nightmare where she receives all F's on Report Card Day before having her take a test, using her fear of failure.
- Putting Buttercup in a nightmare where spiders of varying sizes are trying to eat her, using her fear of spiders.
- Putting Bubbles in a nightmare where tons of clown-like toys and dolls attempt to murder her in the dark, using her fear of clowns and the dark.
- After everything, He cowardly tries to asked the girls for mercy that they don't beat him when he brought this upon himself for invading their dreams.
- In “The Boys Are Back in Town,” revives the Rowdyruff Boys and makes them immune to the girls' kisses so they can’t kill them again, later leading to them beating the girls to near death.
- He brainwashed scientists using his powers and sent the Earth to be rocketed and burned by the Sun's heat, only stopping it when Mojo Jojo told him that it is a stupid plan.
- Even though HIM himself is gullible at some times he’s genuinely taken as a serious threat, considering the stuff he did in the show of manipulating and tormenting people, he's easily the most heinous villain of the series.
- Despite quite frankly being the equivalent of The Devil, nothing suggests he has moral agency issues, as it's shown multiple times he knows right from wrong.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Despite being one of the show's darkest and most disturbing villains, he has a number of comedic moments that detract from his actions (especially in the later seasons) such as him wanting to torture the kids with cavities and where he makes the Professor literally pay full price on breakfast, with his cooling-off periods also being moments of comedy.
- He has villainous friendships with the other villains:
- He genuinely cares about the Rowdyruff Boys after he brought them back and became their new father as he fought with Mojo for their affections, and at the end, he along with Mojo shed tears, both being proud of them.
- Despite them sometimes being at odds with one another, he is still friends with Mojo Jojo, which was shown when they had a friendly competition to see who should take custody of the Rowdyruff Boys, and as mentioned in the above prevention, they embraced one another when the Rowdyruff Boys express their desire to destroy the Powerpuff Girls.
- This also extends to Fuzzy Lumpkins as they teamed up with Mojo Jojo to beat up the Gangrene Gang for prank calling them, and also teamed up with Fuzzy and the other villains to beat Buttercup up for knocking their teeth and other villains teeth as well, and to defeat the Powerpuff Girls in Meet the Beat Alls. What makes their friendship genuine is that they have a lack of fighting against each other and are willing to work together for any cause.
- This also may extend to Princess Morbucks, as they teamed up to defeat the Powerpuff Girls and they both ditched Mojo Jojo when he became an annoyance to the group, and they also terrorized the City of Townsville at the beginning in See Me Feel Me, Gnomey.
- He is one of the villains to sing "Why Can't We All Get Along", and this isn't pragmatic considering he could of easily teleported away or he could easily just disappear if he wanted to, showing he accepts and respects that there is "good" and "evil" in Townsville despite his villainy, and he would even accept that during the events of the bad future, even if he hadn't sang said song and had subverted his friendship with the other villains.
Trivia[]
- He is the only villain from the original Powerpuff Girls to be Near Pure Evil.
