Grem and Acer are major antagonists in Pixar's 12th full-length animated feature film Cars 2, the second installment of the Cars film series. They are Lemons who work as some of Professor Zündapp's henchmen (although they secretly work for Sir Miles Axlerod). Grem is from the Gremlin Family and Acer is from the Pacer Family.
Grem was voiced by Joe Mantegna, whereas Acer was voiced by Peter Jacobson.
Their Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Them Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- They killed agent Leland Turbo under Zündapp's orders by crushing him through a car compactor into a cube, even showing the remains to Zündapp, which satisfied the Professor's sadism.
- When they were ordered to kill Finn McMissile who have been spying on them and the EMP emitter camera by Zündapp, they pursued Finn in the combat ships by using guns until Tony Trihull launched a torpedo, seemingly hitting the British agent, with Grem laughing sadistically when seeing McMissile’s spare tires from his trunk by informing Zündapp that Finn is dead.
- When they cornered the American Agent Rod Redline at the men’s bathroom in the Tokyo Party, they brutally beat him up by injuring him pretty badly, with them only being stopped from inflicting further damage, when Mater accidentally smacks Acer in the face.
- Grem and Acer kidnapped Rod and took him to Zündapp’s secret lair, where they helped Zündapp interrogate Rod Redline after having Allinol installed into his system to find out what secret agent he passed the info to, during which Grem slowly increased the 50% power of electromagnetic pulse to torture Redline to near death, before Zündapp (while received orders from the big boss) personally killed him after finding out that Redline passed the info to Mater while ordering the lemons to find and kill him.
- They used the EMP emitter at the Tokyo race to blow three race cars’ engines while Acer went after Mater after spotting him in the pits, and when Acer and another lemon car went after Mater and were suddenly stopped by Finn McMissile, Acer used a flamethrower to attempt to burn Finn alive to "make sure he stay dead", which Acer obviously fails miserably at doing so.
- They followed Mater to the airport and chased after him and Finn when they escaped, with Grem attempting to use his missile launcher and Acer trying to block Mater and Finn’s path by using luggage carts, before attempting to fire his own machine gun to stop them from escaping.
- They used the EMP emitter to blow up a few cars at the race in Porto Corsa Italy, causing them to get into serious accidents that risked their lives while crashing into themselves, and when Finn McMissile tried to stop them, they tricked him by leaving a trap involving a helicopter with a magnet, capturing him and bringing him to Big Ben to be tied up, while they taunted him of how he and Grem figured that he might stop by to attempt to infiltrate their plan.
- In the last race in Great Britain, they both tried to kill Lightning McQueen under Axlerod's orders, forcing Mater to watch, just because McQueen wanted to use Allinol for the last race.
- When they failed to kill McQueen, due to Sarge swapping his fuel with Fillmore's organic biofuel, they tricked Mater into going to the pits to save McQueen without telling him there was a bomb in his hood, so that Zundapp could blow up the pit stop.
- When they pursued Mater and McQueen throughout the streets of London, they attempt to use their machine guns to kill them.
- Like all of the Lemons, they showed no remorse for their actions and also have no redeeming qualities.
- They stand out from most of the lemons since while most of them were hands-off in the plans, Grem and Acer personally hit the cars with the camera and tricked Mater into heading to the pit stop, while also having the sadism that a vast majority of the lemons lack (aside from Zündapp).
- Though they felt undervalued due to being laughed at by others, not only is this far too petty to justify their actions, but their deeds also outweigh it by a large margin. Additionally, unlike every other lemon, we don’t even see any mention of they themselves being mistreated, making any possible excuse for their actions even more slim.
What Prevents Them from Being Pure Evil?[]
- They both fail the Heinous Standard to Axlerod and Zündapp, since all of their worst actions are under their orders. Even their sadism doesn’t really do much to make them stand out, given that Zündapp is an equally (if not more) sadistic and cruel criminal.
- They have some comedic moments that detract from their villainy, such as Acer driving through a plane and landing in a truck providing lavatory water for the plane, and their defeat of Holley causing them to be slung into a bar and destroying all the tables and spill drinks on the patrons, causing the patrons to beat them up.
- They genuinely care about their families, the Gremlin Crime Family and the Pacer Crime Family.
Trivia[]
- They are the first Pixar Near Pure Evils to not come from an original Pixar film, as Cars 2 is a sequel.
