Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- She consumed the souls of the animals, who lived in Jötunheim by using her magic cauldron. She was extremely delusional and even told her animal victims before taking their souls that they should thank her for taking their souls, because their souls gave them ability to feel emotions, including anger, pain, suffering, sorrow and grief.
- When Atreus and Angrboda tried to stop her by consuming animals from her cauldron, she tried to kill them.
- When Angrboda's parents died, Grýla took care about her granddaughter. However, their relationships were horrible and she treated her cruelly and showed no love and attachment towards Angrboda.
- When her magic cauldron was destroyed, she became angry and started cursing and insulting Angrboda, calling her granddaughter pathetic and telling her that she should have leave her to be eaten by the wolves when Angrboda's parents died.
What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]
- She has a tragic backstory: She was one of the last surviving Jötunn giants and she was one of the very few giants whose souls weren't trapped in marbles in order to save themselves from Odin, the evil king of Aesir, who sought to destroy and wipe out the entire race of Jötunns in order to learn their secrets, and in particularity, how to stop Ragnarok in order to continue his tyrannical reign over the Nine Realms and because of that, it is the main reason on why she became evil.
- Despite their horrible relationship, Grýla has some genuine moments with her granddaughter like using to leaving food like a loaf of bread sitting next to the fire to Angrboda.
- She has moral agency issues because Angrboda told Atreus that she wasn't truly evil, but just a mentally unstable creature, who needed time to recover from her illness.
Trivia[]
- She and Odin are the only two villains in God of War to be Near Pure Evil.
