Gotou is the main antagonist of the Parasyte: The Maxim sci-fi horror anime/manga series.
He is the most powerful parasite in Mayor Takeshi Hirokawa's cabal who was experimentally created by Reiko Tamura as a fusion of 5 different individuals. By cooperating with other parasites, he mainly uses them as his limbs and due to his power and hegemony, he is the closest thing Shinichi Izumi has to an archenemy.
He was voiced by Kazuhiko Inoue (who also voices Kars from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) in the Japanese version of the anime, and Jason Douglas (who also voices King Cold from Dragon Ball) in the English dubbed version.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Unlike many other Parasites who show no Moral Agency and kill instinctively, he has a clear Moral Compass. Some like Reiko actively seek purpose in their existence but Gotou chooses to simply kill out of pure sadism and a superior complex.
- Had one of his other conciounces (or just himself with a different face) bare-handedly murdered 21 Yakuza members in a terrifying and brutal manner while mocking them for being weak and smiling the entire time. Despite being armed criminals, it is still hard to watch as they watch their eventual hopeless demise seeing their comrades die helplessly. When questioned by a dying member on why he did what he performed this massacre, he callously stated this was this was done purely to test his strength, rather than punishing them for their crimes or any other reason.
- Kidnapped a citizen who was chasing after him for the Yakuza murders and presumably killed him offscreen.
- Used his alternate persona, Miki, to presumably commit various murders such as luring in a woman to her death then killing a detective following him.
- He let Miki take over to track down and try to kill Shinichi.
- Chased after Shinichi, trying to kill him and Shinichi while also getting on top of a civilians car to catch up with them. Gotou also managed to injure Shinichi during their fight.
- Absorbed the blood of two innocent paramedics to regain his strength, killing them.
- Managed to terrify even Uragami, who is normally an unflinching psychopathic serial killer who doesn’t even show much fear towards parasites in general.
- Murdered 18 swat officers during the mall quarantine.
- Allowed 5 of the 18 soldiers to open fire at him for two minutes just to show them how hopeless killing him is then proceeded to maul them.
- Decapitated an officer on top of the rooftops, sending his head to the ground in front of Shinichi and several officers.
- Traumatized Shinichi before leaving and announced they would fight again.
- Forced Migi to fuse with him against his will, treating him as an extension of himself rather than a comrade.
- Killed innocent townspeople for sustenance and leaving a bloodied escaper mentally traumatized in order to regain his strength.
- Tries to sadistically kill Shinichi during their final battle.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He is somewhat affable and not below showing respect towards other parasites such as Reiko Tamura while also respecting Mayor Hirokawa.
- He is genuinely loyal to Mayor Hirokawa, despite having no interests in his goals. Even after his death he wishes to honor his last request by killing Shinichi.
- He is slightly honorable towards Shinichi during their fights, occasionally complimenting him for his well implemented strategies and such. He is even willing to let him have the chance to run away initially during their final confrontation. This is a minor prevention however as he is still very sadistic and arrogant, especially in his last moments.
- His defeat is given some sympathy by Shinichi believes he has a right to live and find his own purpose just like humans do, regardless of how evil he is.
