NOTE: This page is only for the mainstream iteration of Gorr the God Butcher as the Marvel Cinematic Universe iteration was not voted Near Pure Evil, and thus only the mainstream version of Gorr's info and crimes should be put on here.

Feel that little lord of heaven? That sense of helplessness as you fall? That is how you feel to be mortal. Next you will learn how it fell to be butchered.
~ Gorr the God Butcher

Gorr the God Butcher is a major antagonist in Marvel Comics, being one of the main enemies of Thor. He serves as the main antagonist of Thor: The God of Thunder and is the overarching antagonist of the King in Black comic series.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Upon gaining the Necrosword, he began a crusade to wipe out all the gods, torturing and slaughtering several gods.
  • At some point in the 9th century, he murdered four Russian gods and kidnapped Thor and tortured him for days.
  • After their fight, Thor believed that he had slain Gorr, when in reality, Gorr managed to survive and went on to slay thousands of gods across the universe.
  • Murdered Chronux and enslave the time gods and their affiliates to build the God Bomb.
  • Using the God Bomb, he attempted to cause a massive event which would have wiped out all gods in existence forever.
  • He managed to mentally break Thor and leave him unworthy of Mjolnir.
  • It is later revealed that he had survived thanks to the Necrosword, as his bond with the symbiote was so strong that his consciousness was contained inside All-Black after his death, and upon being revived by King Loki, Gorr impaled and murdered him.
  • During his battle with Thor, he slaughtered many people in the cosmos, including Midgard and other places, causing damage to the solar system itself.
  • During his final fight with Thor, he created a black hole to devour him.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He has a genuine tragedy of the gods refusing to help him in his time of need, causing his entire family to die, his planet to suffer a drought, and his own people to try to kill him for even daring to suggest that the gods either don't exist or don't care, which led to the Necrosword finding him and twisting him into a murderous savage wishing to kill all gods out of the belief that they don't deserve to live.
  • No matter how evil he became, he deeply loved his family, with their deaths even being the main reason he fell to villainy in the first place.
  • After the replica of Gorr's son that was created by the Necrosword helped Thor defeat Gorr, it was revealed that Gorr had subconsciously infused the replacement son with his own self-loathing and hatred, with it being surmised by All-Father Thor that this meant that, on some level, Gorr despised what he had become and felt that he should be stopped.

Trivia[]

  • Only the mainstream comic book version of Gorr is Near Pure Evil, as his Marvel Cinematic Universe iteration from Thor: Love and Thunder cannot qualify as Near Pure Evil due to his backstory being more tragic, and therefore sympathetic, than his mainstream counterpart's, and while his crimes somewhat made him stand out in comparison to other MCU Near Pure Evils like Alexander Pierce, Ultron, Erik Killmonger and 2014 Thanos, he ultimately redeems himself in the end, something other MCU Near Pure Evils did not do.
