ā€œ Gideon: Hey Scott. I just thought I'd check up, see how things are going. I don't want any hard feelings, so I figured why not be the bigger man and give you a call.
Scott: Uh... thanks?
Gideon: No problem, bro. See, I'm not such a bad guy after all. Anyway, there's a couple things we should probably talk about, some
housekeeping to deal with...
Scott: I'm sorry, who is this?
Gideon: Aheh. You're kidding, right? You're not kidding. Okay, let me break it down for you. We have a
mutual friend, see, and she-- ahh, screw it... This is Gideon. When would it be convenient for you to die?'

~ Gideon's final words as he tries to ruin Scott and Ramona's relationship one last time, to no avail

Gideon Gordon Graves is the main antagonist of Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series.

The seventh and last ex-lover of Ramona Flowers, Gideon is an evil, knowledgeable and emotionally spiteful entrepreneur and mastermind with goals of revenge and conquering the world, He is the archenemy of both Ramona and Scott Pilgrim, the series main protagonist as he was the founder/Leader of The League of Evil Exes he met on the internet who share his grudges against the two lovers.

Gideon isn't seen much throughout the series, except for a blurry picture taken by Wallace Wells, and briefly in the shadows at the end of volume 3. He also appears in the fourth volume in the form of a mysterious shadowy figure, and in volume 5, though he's not actually seen. He finally makes his full debut in volume 6 as the main antagonist.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

In General/Background[]

  • During his relationship with Ramona, he was abusive towards her, pushing her away at any given opportunity and using her as a test subject for the Glow, a mysterious weapon that allowed him to trap others inside their own mind.
  • He founded the League of Evil Exes by complaining about Ramona on Craigslist whilst drunk, catching the attention of Ramona's other exes.
    • It's likely he doesn't care much for them either (given his disappointed reaction to Todd's defeat) and is only using them to keep Ramona for himself.
  • He cryogenically froze his ex-girlfriends and plans to only release them when they decide to get back with him, and he attempted to add Ramona to his collection.
    • After the exes are freed, one of them says that she'd been frozen since 2003.

Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour[]

  • During his fight with Scott Pilgrim, he takes great pleasure when he stabs Scott and kills him (though this would be undone later on). Later on, he stabs and almost kills Ramona and has a sadistic smirk on his face, showing that he was enjoying it.
  • He reveals that throughout the series, he'd been spying on Scott and Ramona through the subspace highway, and also altered Scott's memories.
  • Though it's unclear exactly how, he claims the Glow is the reason he made millions, which he said causes "emotional warfare".
    • It's possible he either sold it to other people (possibly making this weapons dealing) or used it on other people to manipulate them into buying his company's products.
  • He mistreats his current girlfriend, Envy Adams. For example, he forces young designers to make dresses for her for a month and when she complains about having to try on various different dresses, Gideon says that it sexually arouses him to dress her up as a doll. When she asks him if he is okay during his fight with Scott and Ramona, he scolds her, and he hid a sword in her dress without her knowledge so he can use it in his fight.
  • While he has some comedic moments, they are only funny to the reader and he is taken 100% seriously in-universe.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Him cryogenically freezing his ex-girlfriends relies on Fridge Horror, as it is unclear if his ex-girlfriends were in any sort of pain or were fully conscious while frozen. The rest of his crimes are just a few murders and generic abuse.

Trivia[]

  • Gideon's graphic novel counterpart is the only version of him to be NPE, because:
    • His movie counterpart is ultimately a standard ā€œkill the heroesā€ villain.
    • His anime counterpart is too comedic and being portrayed as pitiable most of the time, among having some redeeming qualities, like being straight up On & Off.
