~ The Ghost Clown upon hypnotizing somebody |
The Ghost Clown, actually Harry the Hypnotist, is the main antagonist of the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! episode "Bedlam in the Big Top".
He is a hypnotist that used to work at Mr. Barnstorm's circus, before he was arrested for stealing. As revenge, he came back to the circus to sabotage it through his hypnotic abilities.
He was voiced by Barry Richards.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He stole multiple things while working at Mr. Barnstorm's circus.
- After getting out of prison, he disguised himself as the Ghost Clown and used his abilities to sabotage the circus for getting him arrested.
- It’s stated he caused trapeze wires at the circus to fail, implying his actions led to the injury and possible deaths of past performers.
- He sabotages the bike of Samson the Strongman and Max the Midget, which almost results in the latter's death.
- He attempts to kill some of Mystery Inc.'s members by:
- Hypnotizing Scooby and having him balance across the high wire, later removing the hypnosis to have him fall.
- He also throws darts at balloons that are lifting up Scooby to make him fall.
- Hypnotizing Daphne to ride a unicycle.
- While this arguably is less bad than what Shaggy and Scooby get, Daphne could still have gotten hurt, as said by Velma herself.
- Hypnotizing Shaggy to make him go inside a lion's cage and tame it, later attempting to remove the hypnosis to have Shaggy eaten alive by the lion.
- Hypnotizing Scooby and having him balance across the high wire, later removing the hypnosis to have him fall.
- He shows to be extremely sadistic, watching and enjoying Scooby's and Shaggy's performances before trying to get them killed, and even laughing when he throws darts at Scooby or when he attempts to have Shaggy eaten by the lion.
- While the franchise does have some truly vile villains, he stands out not only because he comes from the original series (whose villains weren't usually too heinous) but also because he has less resources when compared to resourceful villains like Shannon Lucas or supernatural ones like the Evil Entity.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- His defeat is pretty comedic, with Scooby and Shaggy tricking him into hypnotizing himself through the use of some mirrors, which causes him to believe he's a chimp and the event is given a laugh track. However, he's taken seriously most of the time, so it's a minor prevention.
