Obould is no ally to us. He never was. We tolerated him because he was amusing.
~ Gerti plotting to betray Obould.

Gerti Orelsdottr is a minor antagonist in The Legend of Drizzt, serving as the secondary antagonist of The Hunter's Blades Trilogy. She is the leader of the frost giant Yagray tribe, since her father who is technically the jarl is perpetually on his death bed. She formed an alliance with the orc king Obould I Many-Arrows and participated in his war against the kingdoms of the Silver Marshes as one of his most powerful allies.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Unlike Obould, who only fought led the war because he wanted a home for his people, Gerti's only motivation was power over more of the north.
  • She is partly to be responsible for her father's state of health through having a servant poison him.
  • She provided Obould with frost Giant troops, without whom Obould never would have been able to sack larger settlements. She and her troops would later participate in Obould's infamous siege of Mithral hall.
  • She led several raids of her own, having her frost giants attack towns and villages and kill all of the inhabitants.
  • Despite working with him, Gerti saw Obould as beneath her because he was an orc and tried to control him. After she realized that she had underestimated his intelligence and that he could not be controlled, she tried to kill him, resulting in him breaking both of her legs.
  • Although she eventually pulls her troops out of the war and spares the life of Drizzt Do'Urden, (who was trying to kill Obould at the time) her choice has nothing to do with morality and is mostly motivated by wanting to get back at Obould.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She ultimately fails the Heinous Standards to Obould himself, who started the war in the first place and was ultimately responsible for all the death it caused. However, she still easily passes the general standards.
  • She is shown to have limits to her bloodlust. Although her primary motivation for backing out of the war was anger at Obould, part of it was simply being tired of all of the fighting and death that had gone on for years at this point. This shows that she has slight standards.
