~ Gengetsu Kibaoni's command on awakening a Yokai. |
Gengetsu Kibaoni is the ruler of the Kibaoni Army Corps and the main antagonist of Shuriken Sentai Ninninger.
He was voiced by Mugihito, who also voiced Sigma in Mega Man X.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Even as a human, he was an evil warlord and attempted to use fear to conquer the world with his army, taking advantage of Japan's terrible state due to war (meaning he has full moral agency). Because of this, the Igasaki Clan had to kill him to end his reign of terror.
- Returned to Earth, which he vowed to do in 444 years, as Yokai alongside his three generals and caused mass destruction before having to be sealed by Yoshitaga with the 48 Sealing Shuriken, which costed him his life, which was only extended because of the End Shuriken. What's more, that wasn't his true revival, as it was miscalculated.
- He is personally responsible for the creation of the monsters of the week: Yokai, having the corrupted Sealing Shurikens infect inanimate objects, turning them into monsters with Kyuemon's help. He even gives the order "You, an object, with no will. Come alive, with the will of Gengetsu Kibaoni!", as it happens, thus making him responsible for their attacks on the city, which were done specifically to scare the populace and create fear energy to resurrect him completely.
- One of his Yokai also created giant clones of him to cause destruction.
- In his first appearance to his subordinates, he was joyful that his attacks are causing the world to fall into turmoil.
- He creates the first Advanced Yokai, which he orders to kill the Ninningers and their OtomoNin and does it personally in spirit form.
- Upon being revived fully due to the grief his wife had after learning her son Mangetsu (meaning his son as well) was killed, he showed no concern for his death and didn't seem that fazed with Ariake's sadness, meaning he only saw him as a pawn that got him what he wanted.
- It is later revealed that Kyuemon is actually Gengetsu's firstborn son, whom he birthed from a concubine and sent to the future to set up and cause his resurrection, meaning he is the reason for Kyuemon becoming Yoshitaga’s student, betraying him, the man vowing never to take another, and giving Gengetsu the opportunity to cause conflict in the first place. What’s worse is that he hid this fact from his own wife, who was shocked and displeased when it was revealed to her.
- Upon meeting Yoshitaga once again, he declares it to be the final day of the Igasaki clan. In the resulting duel, he almost “kills” him before the Ninningers showed up.
- Had Kyuemon attack Yoshitaga from behind and watched gleefully as he takes the End Shuriken from him (revealing he did die as a result of their last battle and the End Shuriken was what kept him alive), causing him to pass on for good. He and Kyuemon only spared the other Ninningers (right after the transformed latter demorphs them with a devastating finisher attack.) to see how powerless they are in stopping him.
- Absorbs his own wife Ariake upon her defeat, both because she outlived her usefulness to him and because he could.
- Had Kyuemon use the End Shuriken to create more mooks and revive previously defeated Yokai (while also blocking the transformation process) to terrorize and destroy everything, intending to rule through fear what’s left of it. The yokais continue even after his death, requiring the destruction of the End Shuriken to end the threat for good.
- As the Ninningers are comforting and sympathizing Kyuemon for his motive to bring back his family, Gengetsu appears and grabs his son by the throat and taunts that he was ultimately just another tool for him to use and claiming that’s his fate. Then he absorbs Kyuemon just so he can grow giant, opposing everything Ixagi family stands for.
- It also caused Kyuemon to redeem himself by helping take him down from within.
- Even though he is never shown mistreating his followers and even revived Raizo Gabi despite his failure last time, the fact that he doesn't react at all to the deaths of Masakage or Raizo indicates he only treats them well out of pragmatism and only revived Raizo in the first pace because he was still loyal and useful to his goals.
- Is always played seriously and has the biggest impact on the plot in spite of his limited screentime.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- The full extent of his heinousness isn’t fully explored, as there is a lack of a confirmed body count from the last two times he tried conquering Japan.
- While it’s unfair to compare him to the Next Big Bad, Ginis from Zyuohger who is an intergalactic being with obviously bigger resources and a higher body count, he can be compared to ToQger’s Emperor of Darkness Z (the previous Big Bad who is far less evil and has redeemable qualities which Gengetsu lacks) and Goseiger’s Robogog (A Sentai Pure Evil with the same concept of a former human whose goal is to rule the world through fear, yet shows more acts of cruelty with even less resources).
Trivia[]
- He and his Power Rangers counterpart, Galvanax are both NPE, though Gengetsu is even worse as Galvanax fails the heinous standard compared to Madame Odious (the counterpart of Kuyemon) and has some genuine comedic moments. On the other hand, Gengetsu sets the standard of Ninninger and has no comedic moments whatsoever.
